Downloaded Scenery FR took a poop

Postby Dan Morera » Mon Jun 04, 2007 10:42 am

Hi guys, my FS9 was working great, actually it was awesome, then I decided to download the Alaska scenery found HERE with the file names GlBayV2a.zip and GlBayV2b.zip, these are self installed files. They are great looking, scenery is awesome, but my frame rates started acting on me, I have them locked at 25 fps. I also moved the Autogen slider 1 click to the right (got it to max) thought this may be a factor too, just don't know how much.

My system is:
Intel (R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHZ (2CPUS)
1 GB RAM
DIRECT X9
RADEON X300 SE 128 MB HYPERMEMORY (ATI) 32 BIT 60HZ
160 GB Hard Drive

What can I do to fix this? It's affecting me even in other sceneries. Even if I uncheck the addon from the list.

On a side note, how can I tell if I have FS9 or FS9.1? The CDs don't say anything. And I just want to rule out that I need the patch.

Thanks for you help guys

Rule number 1: Avoid as much as possible to allow free reign to any autoinstallers. If an autoinstaller is given, make it install in a dummy folder and then transfer the files and activate them into the simulator yourself manually. The not following of this rule may cause only harm to your FS.

Rule number 2: first learn Rule number 1.

I pretty much fear that those autoinstallers f...ed with your FS. Pretty few things to do now. :(

As for the version of FS, open a whatever flight, press the ALT key, on the menus select help / About Flight Simulator, the following windows will show the version and the build.

Well, lesson learned, would you recommend to uninstall and reinstall FS9? I'm pretty new to the Sim, so I won't loose that much work. Should I?

Any other advice?

I would. It's pretty difficult to see what could be wrong from here in your FS. Reinstallatio necesse est (mock Latin for: Reinstallation is necessary :P).

Perhaps wait a little more hoping in advices form others, and if nothing comes your way... better luck with the next installation. :-/

To see your FS version, start a flight and from the 'Alt' menu click on Help>About. The version will be shown.

With all the custom scenery objects, GB is graphics intensive and

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

My guess is your settings are at fault here. While the GB scenery is very graphics intensive (and truly beautiful), it should not effect frame rates at all when you fly outside of the scenery.
My PC is quite a bit less powerful than yours (512Mb ram, 1.8 ghz, GeForce FX5200), but after a bit of playing with the sliders, it seems to handle it quite well. I would just play around with your sliders to achieve the best medium between smoothness and graphics (takes a few hours of trial and error, but its not overly complicated), or, if you don't feel like flying around Southeast Alaska very much, just uninstall the scenery itself, you don't really need to reinstall the entire game.
I would first try readjusting your autogen, and maybe also toning your graphics settings down a bit (but not so that it inhibits your enjoyment of the game). I have well over 300 aircraft and many sceneries, and I have never found anything that forced me to reinstall the entire game. Almost anything in the game can be fixed by adjusting sliders, .cfg's, moving files around, or uninstalling the problem aircraft/scenery.

  Good Luck!

Thanks guys I really really appreciate it. I'll try some things tonight and let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks again
Dan

(I also remembered that I turned on the shadows setting, so a combination of shadows and autogen to the max may be at fault)
