I just had to tell someone

Postby Dan Morera » Fri May 18, 2007 3:40 pm

Last night I flew my first flight on the FS9, I mean one where I decided where I was taking off from and where I was landing. It was amazing!!!!

I got to say this, took me a while to figure why I was fighting the plane for the first 20 minutes.....well doh AP was on, and the best thing was he actually was right about the heading. OK so I was off course about 40nm on my first flight, no big deal, well turns out my country has bigger mountains than I thought  :o ;D, I managed to land safely (no damage option was on  :P )

It was all the I expected and then some.

I have to work to fix some little things I didn't like about the image, but that's another post.

Thanks for reading, I just had to share with someone who understood. Wife thought I went nuts when I landed.

Congratulations! I remember my first real take-off, flight, and landing (That wasn't at the T/O airport  ::)). Ahhh the memories...

I still haven't had a chance to do an Ocean hop yet  ;) Best I've done is from KJFK to KMIA  ::)

Congratulations, Dan.

It is amazing how addictive this whole thing is.   ;)

And the sense of accomplishment as you master different procedures, techniques, and aircraft is amazing especially since it is purely recreation..... and for most of us time spent gaining skills that we NEVER will use in real life (like flying an A10 or a 747-400).

It's only the beginning, my good man, only the beginning.

If yopu REALLY want to drive your wife nuts..... drop down to the "Homebuild Cockpits" forum section.   ;D

best,

Good to hear you got such a kick out of completing your first propr flight Dan, I don't remember mine, but I do remember 'coaching' a friend through his first flight & landing - he got so into it & was concentrating so much on hitting the runway, that he was physically shaking after touching down  ;D

He really enjoyed it though & thought it was brilliant.

Welcome to the weird world of the obsessed  ;D

The real beauty of Flight Simulation for me, particularly the MS Flight Simulator Series, is the opportunity to visit and tour various countries throughout the whole World for the cost of a few Pennies of electricity.....
...especially when many of the excellent Scenery, etc, add-ons are included in the program...
...places I could never afford to visit in real life... :)...!

Paul... touring California....from my comfy seat in England... ;)...!

...an excellent History and Geography lesson, as well!.... 8-)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

My first successful landing was... hmmm... :-? ...  :o ...  :(

I'm getting old. :'(

If I'm not wrong it was on the Amiga version of F117 Stealth Fighter, and was an ILS too, a pair of years before I discovered FS on the PC.

My first landing at all on FS was on FS4, from the now deceased Meigs Field to... Chicago Midway, I think. It was a time for short hops, back then, and almost exclusively with the Cessna. After all at the time Internet here in Italy was a soccer club and geographic and airport informations were extremely difficult to gather (for the USA [only territory modeled in FS4] even more than Italy). The good old days were not so good, after all. :P
There's but one real cure for human stupidity. It's called DEATH.

At the moment mourning the assassination of sarcasm and irony for the good of the "higher".

Well, I remember the pride I felt after my first successful dead reckoning cross-country, with wind, using an E6B to figure wind drift.  And THAT was on an Apple IIc running Bruce Artwick's SubLogic FS (which would become Microsoft's), on a 9" green monochrome monitor. It was completely contained on ONE 5.25" floppy. radio navs wew all functional. One plane, a Piper Archer. I had a blast. How far they've come...

OK, I'm starting to sound like an old fart...

I like flying other places, but i like true VFR, its easy to follow a highway or follow the lake edge to the other end of the state, even dedreckoning point and shoot. My first flight was off a carrier deck in Fighters Anthology, F-4B phantom, off the coast of.... not sure really, I think the "Vladivostok" coast, been a few years. My first landing, I dont know. :-/
What do I do you ask? I struggle! Then destroy! Then try to put back together what I just broke on accident.....
