Floats and Amphib hulls in water in FS9....?

Could somebody give me some tips about how to lower a seaplane or amphbian (not a floatplane) and keep one wing pontoon (either port or starboard, depending on weight and fuel) on landing or takeoff in the water for taxi, then leave it up to plane and pilot to keep both pontoons out of the water for takeoff/landing?  I'm really overwhelmed by all the contact points and what each value does.  Thanks in advance.  John Murphy

Download/install the MS FS2004 Aircraft Container SDK. It details all of the entries in the aircraft.cfg file.

In the [contact_points] section, look for the float points (point.x=4, ......). Each float is defined by 2 points, fore and aft. By defining the main hull float as 1 float (or 2 inline floats as I used here for the stepped hull) centered on the keel, the ac can list to rest on one of the pontoons.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks, Dave.  This helps a LOT!  I have a great ALPHASim PBY5/5A which rides much too high in the water -- pontoons are ~ 1 foot off surface.  Bird is one of the better fliers, but on water, it just doesn't look right.  Again, many thanks.  John Murphy
