Still getting blurries-any fs9.cfg or other twks?

Postby krigl » Tue May 22, 2007 6:18 am

Hi, I've got a decent FS9 comp (at last) E6600, 2GB ram, GeForce 7900 etc but I'm still getting blurries in the middle distance in FS9. Any tips, fs9.cfg tweaks, links to where this was discussed already welcome....

In "Weather" set your "Distance" to about 10-20 miles Max!...;)...!

That's about as far as you can see reasonably "clearly" during a "real" flight..;)...!

Mist, Fog, low Sun, or Rain will seriously reduce visibility even more!... :o...!

In real life, you can rarely see "clearly" over a large distance, especially in the air!

This one is my all-time favourite .cfg tweaks....>>>>

TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19 (20 for 38m mesh, 21 for 20m mesh)

19 Shows "flat" rivers and streams..... :'(...!
20 Shows deeper rivers and streams.
21 Is excellent if you like really deep rivers!... :-*...!

Some further tweeks:

In your [weather] section change the following section:
MAX_UNLIMITED_VIS=96560 < Change TO that (I can't remember what the original number is)

This shortens the 'horizon' distance that FS will actually render.

From advice that Nick N has given me over time, this is my [display] and [terrain] section:

[DISPLAY]
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=****** < Change to a realistic number, nothing above (35fps as they human eye cannot detect more than this  ;))
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=200
TextureMaxLoad=8
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.9
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=3
[SCENERY]
IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5
DYNAMIC_SCENERY=1
DYN_SCN_DENSITY=5
DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1
SUNGLARE=1
LENSFLARE=1

Thats my .cfg, I'm sure everyone has different ways that they will set theirs up, this is just mine  :D

Thanks Alex, that's the kind of thing I was hoping for. I knew there was something wrong with the "Terrain Extended Levels 232" in the bit I copied, I bet the sim only recognises '2' from that string....

Any other thoughts/tweaks from anyone?

Unfortunately I don't think there is all to much else you can do  :-[

The only other thing I can possibly think of, but has nothing to do with blurries is a tweak to make FS compatible with surround sound  ::)

Have you installed the Intel Dual Core fix? It allows FS9 to use both cores, and has the same effect and selecting both CPU affinities in task manager.

From NickN:

X2 DUAL CORE and DUAL CORE INTEL PROCESSOR SYSTEMS ONLY

ALSO REQUIRES XP SP2 BE INSTALLED for WINDOWS XP X32

Recently I installed a 4800+ X2 in my old A8V Deluxe tower. My newer system is not as affected by the WinXP dual core bug but the A8V system did not like running FS9 on the dual core processor as well as it did the single core. With this fix you should have much smoother game play and in some systems up to a 2-10% increase in performance. Although FS9 will not run with 100% dual core support, this fix will allow FS9 to take better advantage of the dual core processor by optimizing the system to let FS9 have all it needs in uninterrupted CPU cycles.

As many of you know (and some may not) Microsoft released a non-public hotfix for dual core use in Windows XP.

Windows XP has affinity issues with dual core slugs in games and other applications. In order to properly correct Windows XP for game use with dual core processors (and dual slugs), the following MUST be done.

NOTE: FOR INTEL SYSTEMS, SKIP TO #7 BELOW

1.
Make sure to uninstall any previous processor driver and reboot

2.
Install the AMD X2 processor driver from here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... usetup.exe

3.
Reboot

4.
Install the AMD X2 processor Optimizer from here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... /Setup.exe

5.
Before rebooting, verify the optimizer added the following command switch to the BOOT.ini file. It is a hidden file located in the root directory of your Windows install drive (generally the C drive). Make sure your BOOT.ini has this command in it: /usepmtimer

To check boot.ini, right click on My Computer go to properties, click on the ADVANCE tab, then under

...sorry to butt in but I've just put together a new system using the C2D e6400 proc. Went with an 8600 GTS ....just because. Best investment I seemed to make though was in (2) WD 250 GB (16MB) SATA II hard-drives. Now FS9 is installed in it's own separate 80gb partition on the 2nd H/D. Result absolutly no blurries at all. I think the 16MB memory on the H/D combined with the separate partition makes a world of difference and my frame-rate is sky high (pardon me..!!). Makes for super easy defrags too! Didn't realize Microsoft had a C2D hotfix...so will look into that now too...

Change:

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS= to 9.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS= to 4.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=232 <-----Have it one UNLESS you use some kind of buffer mesh where have it a higher number.
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT= yeah up that. Max is 400 and higher values reduce texture loading times and blurries but can also give you stutters.

Well I don't know...

My FS 2004 .cfg file is original apart from this entry, which I vary now and again, depending upon how deep I want my rivers to be....;)....>>>>

TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21....(varies from 19 (Default), to 21)

...but apart from that, my system is perfectly normal with respect to my Processor and Graphics Card (below), except that I reduce my visibility in the "Weather" option to around 10-20 Miles and this gives me a realistic view of the ground scenery ahead of me as I fly towards it.
It unfolds slowly, and becomes clearer, as I gradually approach it....
...just like in real life....;)...!

No way can I see the Sheep clearly on the Welsh mountains 20 miles ahead of me whilst in my Cessna 152...trust me...;)...LOL...!

I think the Scenery view unfolding around me, during flight, is fairly realistic in FS 2004 with my Visibility Settings set to "real-life visibility"...(No need for fancy "add-ons")... :-*...!

...either that, or my vision is failing in old age...Bugger!... :'(...!

LOL... ;D...!

Paul....FS 2004 is King... 8-)...!

P.S. Fiddling around with the Default "Weather Options" is both fun, and educational, for anyone interested in real weather....like Motorcyclists and Sopwith Camel Pilots, desperately striving to keep dry...

You shouldn't set it to 1  :-?

Krigl said that he made a mistake and it should only be 3, but setting it to 1 will only increase blurries further in the distance?!
