Where am I going to start...?

Postby Mees » Mon May 07, 2007 3:52 pm

Alright, my FS9 folder is a complete mess, and a couple of weeks ago a doctor concluded I get literally crazy in a chaos. If it's either on my PC or in real life.

Now, FS9 works like s**t, and that's the reason you don't see screenshots from me very often anymore..... Now, where do I start cleaning up? My HDD is stuffed with movies and music, FS9, FSX and games and storage(I need to lay off the ripped game downloading :P) so the space is rather crampy. The FS9 is about 90GB and I think it should be a lot less in order to get it to work properly. Now here's the favour I need: Who can make me a clear plan of where to start, what to do first, how to work through it and so on? In the meantime I'll get my medication ready. :P

Thanks!!

Mees

Step 1

Burn every zipped download folder in your flightsim area to a DVD, and then delete every one from your hard drive.

best,

Step 2:

Move any aircraft you don't use often to a folder (I call mine "Hanger") in the /Aircraft folder. This will speed up loading times.

Step 3:

Only use addon scenery in areas you actually fly in. Ex: I have only flown in Africa, therefore, I don't have addons wasting my hdd and slowing the sim!

Gd luck!

Reminds me I'm overdue for a cleanup myself...
My method: delete (with backups, of course) all aircraft I haven't flown in (time period varies from person to person, but you get the idea).
I've found there are always lots of planes I've tried and didn't like, but neglected to get rid of.

Same goes for scenery.

Getting rid of saved flights that have no regular use is helpful, too.

Do what I do every now and then. Uninstall FS9, delete every folder and make a clean install with only the add-ons you are certain to use.

Crash ;)

1: Choose what sim you want to use. You can't have both. I recommend FS9 since most computers can run it better than FSX

2: Get rid of extra files in you docs, desktop, etc.

3: Get rid of extra addons or store them somewhere else until you need them.

Follow these three steps and your computer and your sim will run much better.  :)

...'cos you only need one Flight Sim....

...and FS9 Rules!... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

What I do...

Make my Master hard drive the Slave Drive, and replace it with a brand-new one, then transfer over only the files that I really need.....including FS9!...then remove the Slave Drive and store it...;)...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

...and we'll have no more "Y'all's" from you Europeans!...That's reserved for Americans only, especially the ones from Texas!... >:(...!

Because if you have both, you will have so many files on your computer that will slow you up.  :)

Don't forget to run a good defragmentation utility (maybe even twice back-to-back), and have Windows clean up other unused files such as the Recycle bin, temporary Internet files, etc.
