FSFSCONV?

Postby Zaphod » Thu May 10, 2007 4:41 am

Hi all.
Can someone please explain the purpose of the folder "fsfsconv" which resides in the aircraft folder of FS9? I recently downloaded a nice DHC6 Twin Otter but the gauges would not display until I realised that the panel cfg aliased the panel to fsfsconv. I then placed all the gauges in there and it worked fine.
Just curious.

The fsfsconv (Flight Shop to Flight Simulator Converter) folder is a throwback to the FS98 Converter which contained a selection of generic panels for aliasing 3rd party aircraft to. This folder was also included by default in CFS1 & FS2000 but discontinued in FS2002 which caused a lot of installation problems with aircraft designed for the earlier sims. For some unknown reason they decided to resurrect it in FS9 when everyone had forgotten all about it & it was no longer necessary. The people at MS work in mysterious ways. ::)

Thanks Hagar.
As you say "Mysterious" indeed. At least I got the thing to work.

Any aircraft from the same designers I always alias panels and sounds to within FSFSCONV. Reduces HD used space. Of course Microsoft has a number of default panels there also!
As I am a mad downloader all this makes sense to me? Cannot get the hang of hangers, although simple enough. :-?
