FS Blue screen problem...

Postby Stormtropper » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:50 pm

...just started getting this today...

I will start the sim, choose aircraft/location/time/season/weather just fine...

...it will load, and I'll taxi around for a little while, fly alittle...

...then it just crashes to a blue screen, not a normal one either, there is no text...its just a "blue screen"...

...the only changes I have made since the last time it worked are...I installed the IRIS F-14 update, installed a new envmap.bmp, and turned off "Islands of the West Indies" scenery so it would stop conflicting with the TNCM one...

...oh yeah, FSX has the same problem too...(so I'm guessing the the IRIS F-14?)

....all other programs and games work fine...I left BF2 running for like 3 hours today, and no crash (with settings on high, trying to force a crash if it was a graphics/processor/memory issue)...

Specs:
ABIT AV8
X850XT
Corsair XMS (1 gig) OCZ Platinum (2 gigs)
AMD 3200+ 939
Audigy 2ZS

Thanks,
Jeff

I know billions of people who have had this. All I did was uninstall EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER and then I put everything back on that was needed.

NOTE: DON'T uninstall windows.

If you must go down this lane... format and reinstall windows too. It's only half a hour more work and in the end you have a squeaking clean environment too. ;)

I hope, if you upgrade, that you do it because you need it, and not only because a "cross" is somewhere in the list of things to buy. If it's only for said "cross", then it's surely "money for nothing", after the song. After all, if spent for a new system only to use a simulator only marginally better (and only under the graphics department)...

Whatever keeps your wings afloat. ::)

If so, good luck with the "so called new" sim. I fear you'll need it. :P

Of course I'd never advise someone to build a computer around one piece of entertainment software.. But rest assured.. FSX is a major improvent over FS9 in many many ways.. so if you're uprading anyway, keep that in mind. Besides.. the next version of FS will need at least as much computer as FSX.. probably more... But that's likely 3 years from now.

Yeah yeah yeah... we all know it already. ::)

Are we discussing "the cross" here, by the way? Did I mistake forum room? :-?

Anyways, seen that the hardware will take those next two years to become powerful enough to support what is a graphic enhancement only of FS9 without slowing down, and cheap enough not to bankrupt you only to follow M$'s nightmares, better go directly for FS11 IMNSHO (that is, if FS11 will nor require sVista as a OS, because if it does...) :(

Experience teaches those who want to learn. FS2000 taught me well (and only few others, it seems. Has to be the consumerisms' call). >:(

Shall we drop this once and for all? :P

I wasn't bringing anything up to drop. And if I'm not mistaken, you brought up FSX in this thread.

I was just advising someone on upgrade considerations..

But I will point out blatant mis-information..

I really wish you'd fly FSX for a few months before declaring it a graphical only improvement. That is utterly false   ;)

I am flying it, pal. I installed it for my nephew, so he doesn't touch my simulators and from time to time I FLY IT, even if for not more than a half hour before my patience begins deserting me. Then I shut it off.

I do not presume to speak about things I know nothing about.

When I say what I say, it's because I've tried it.

I have still to see anything, and I stress anything better in FSX compared to FS9. And I mean really better, beside a superior autogen density (that weigh down to single digit even the most powerful PC on earth, BTW), and that's not really a better thing, only nicer to look at.

The only thing I've found? An unreasonable slowing down even at minimum graphics (and I'm speaking default graphics and planes. I don't want to speculate about add-ons). The need to use it with the same details of FS98 to be usable.

A GREAT step forward... for the hardware dealers. Indeed.

Take my word for it  ;)   With the proper hardware, it's a much better simming experience..

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything.. but I will point out blatant mis-information.

With better hardware, there will be FS11.

Maybe.

I'm not going to adopt that... thing called sVista not even if I'm paid, so if FS11 will still use WinXp, it will be FS11...

If not...

It'll be the end of an age for me, I guess.

See ya on another thread.

Does this conversation have anything to do with the question that Stormtropper asked?  ::)
