awhile back i was gonna buy fsx but then was told my comp just couldnt so i was wondering if fs98 would work well anyway heres my specs tell me what you think about it runnin fs9

It should run it pretty well, I don't know about the graphics card, it may be a little lacking, but the processor is nice.  

Its not going to be maxed out omg amazing but you can get decent graphics with good performance, should be fine.

I trust you wanted to write FS9, and not FS98.

Your PC (a laptop, seen the technology) seems pretty on the ball for FS9, anyway. You might have some little setback because of the not so powerful videocard, but if it has at least 128Mb they should be very minor. Pretty good configuration for FS9.

And if you really meant FS98 instead, then your configuration is way over the top.

wow fs98...... i remeber those days... jeez my pc was overkill times 2 for FS98 and now it struggles to keep up with FSX on low

It will run it, not well mind you, but it will work.

I have 2.0 P4, ATI 9200SE (about the only thing I can say for it is taht its 128mb), 768MB DDRRAM,  40 + 120GB WD HDDs. It runs at 20-25 fps with average to below average settings. Some would say its unplayable, but in cruise you dont even notice it, and you get used to it during takeoff/landing. No stutters though.

20-25 fps is quite good, VERY far from unplayable. On the other hand, you can say that a frame rate over 25 is quite surplus and there only to brag about. I, for an example, keep the fps limiter at 22 and never had any regrets.

The matter of having to keep the sim on very light settings is something that might make a sim experience less enjoyable (ask the users of "the cross" about it), but with your configuration it might be inevitable.

You guys must be doing something wrong. I've got a PIII 1GHz, 512Mb RAM and a Ti4600 card and I can get 20-25 FPS with everything maxed out! The only time I have trouble is if there is animated scenery and heavy AI in the same place then it can drop a few FPS.

Ozzy, are you sure no one has absconded with your Pentium III and left behind for you to use a way more powerful system?


Really, for you to go about and say (in the freeware screenshots forum, if I remember correctly) you use even "the cross" with little problems, when on mine with all the unofficial performance patches and at minimum settings I want to put two fingers down my throat and puke my entrails out for its slowness... Really, my system CAN EASILY get higher than 22 (in FS9). That is, if I choose it to. But seen that having high fps is pretty much wasteful and source of blurrings, I've long chosen to put a top at 22. It's a choice, not a limitation.
