world.cab file

Postby The Ruptured Duck » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:33 pm

I just reinstalled FS, and I got a message saying that this file was corrupt or missing.  I attempted to try it again with no luck, so I chose to ignore it.  Now the whole world is messed up.

What exactly went wrong here, and how do I fix it?

I chose to uninstal it origionally because many of my gauges were missing.

The file corrupted is on the install disks, am I right? :-/

You can try and change your CD/DVD reader and see if another is able to read said file correctly (don't have to buy another reader, ask a friend to lend his CD/DVD reader to you for a while and swap it yourself, if you're a hardware capable person, or ask someone who can if not).

If the CD/DVD reader swap still gives bad results, nothing you can do but ask M$ "in person" to change the faulty installation CD with a working one (if they still have one, with this "cross" fad lately you can never say...). :(

(personal note: This is the reason it's always a good practice to make a personal backup copy of any and every important software, like I do.

Thanks, but I'm not about to dive into computer surgery, with zero knowledge in the area.

It is possile for someone to send me the file?  Or is is possible to borrow the CD from a friend and reinstall it that way?

If a friend can borrow you the faulty disk, it would be easier for you. You can install the game and play with it, while at the same time petition M$ for a working disk. Good idea. ;)

You might like to read this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258496/en-us
It could be something as simple as a dirty CD.

PS. This sounds like your problem.
You receive an error message that resembles one of the following:

Setup failed to extract files from drive :\ filename .CAB. This is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted cabinet file. Please restart your machine and run setup again.

It's a good idea to disable anti-virus software during the install.
