Hi Vinny,
as for the missing folders, they contain subfolders, but are all empty by default. If you want to, you can create the directory structure yourself. It is:
[Your FS9 folder]
+-- Addon Scenery
+-- scenery
+-- texture
+-- Adv
+-- WAV
+-- CacheHowever, I doubt that's going to solve your problem. Maybe some piece of software is giving FS trouble. A good program to analyse the processes running on your system is a system security tool called
HijackThis. It can be obtained at
http://www.merijn.org/programs.php. Run the program, select
Do a system scan and save a logfile. The results will open in Notepad (usually). If you can't make head or tail of the data displayed, you can have the log auto-analysed via copy and paste at
http://www.hijackthis.de/en. Feel free to post the log results here, maybe I (or someone else) might spot a cause for the problem.
Some general considerations:
1.) Are you logged in as a user with administrator privileges? A lot of games won't run properly if you're not.
2.) Have you tried disconnecting internet, shutting down other programs (like virus scanners etc.) and running FS
exclusively?
3.) What version of Windows are you using? (To check that, right-click on
My Computer and select
Properties.) What version of DirectX is installed? (To check that, select
Run... from the start menu, type in
dxdiag and click on
OK.) Are your video drivers up-to-date? (I think the latest release for the Radeon X1300 for Windows XP was Catalyst 7.1)
4.) Have you tried installing the official patch from the Microsoft Website? It will update FS9 to version 9.1, maybe that helps, who knows...
5.) When the splash screen comes up, is there any hard drive activity, like it tries to load FS data? (Usually, you can hear a hard drive "working"...) Can you shut down the splash screen or does your computer freeze completely?
Hope this helps a little bit. :-? Don't give up!
