Postby crotiusf16 » Fri Feb 02, 2007 8:30 pm

:-[ Yep, that is my question in my subject bar. ::) Is it possible to move the game onto my 80Gig HDD without having to install it from scratch?

Well, I got FS9 on my second partition. I would save your "Aircraft", "Effects", "Scenery", "Texture", "Sound", "Addon Scenery" and "Modules" folder (maybe "Flights", but you should check yourself, what you have changed before) and simply install the game on the new HDD. After that you should copy the saved folders to that new HDD. I did this, and it worked fine (but maybe I just had luck, but I think, this might work). Later (when your FS9 is installed on the new HDD), you should try everything out as a test. After everything works (really, check before), you can uninstall the game on the original HDD.

So it worked with my laptop.

I wouldn't just move it to the new HDD (because of the registry).

I transferred mine from my old computer to my new one by means of, external hard drive, it transferred almost everything over, a couple of addons never made the journey, but I was pleased with the result.

Should be fine to just move the folder over, however you will need to used the registry repair tool available over at the Flight1 website.

A couple of people here have moved their game folders over and I don't believe that they have ever had a trouble....

I did it making a copy with windows on the new HD and sacrificing a whole afternoon to redirect manually all the registry calls from the old FS9 path to the path where the copy I did was.

It took time and effort, but has always worked fine.

PS
If you have no idea on how to modify the windows registry, then do nothing and try another way, because I refuse to accept responsibility if an error should happen.

Thanks for all the help. Ok, if I understand this correctly; install FS2004, then move the folders across to the 80Gig. If prompted to overwrite, I must say yes.

I must tell all of you that I am very impressed with the help and goodies that I have downloaded here. Everything works, and was a great help.

:( I see no one answered me, so I believe then that I have answered my own question.

I had problems posting screenshots here so I posted some at www.wizzsim-simulations.com under my name there. Go have a look and let me know what you think of them. The help with the fs9.cfg was a GREAT help that I printed from here.

Sorry for the lack of answers, but to be honest, your last post didn't seem to be a question, rather you confirming what you had to do....

Did everything work out OK in the end? Is your FS now up and running?

Cheers,

Yep, it did. I am over the moon. I downloaded a Madagascar addon. It seems I have a bit of a problem with it. If I don't come right I will post a question, a proper question. lol

Thanks again for all the help. Here in our country help is very scarce with this kind of thing.
