What landing procedure do you prefer or love most?

Postby Conan Edogawa » Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:19 pm

Hey guys, after asking several virtual pilots, I realised that everyone has different opinions about this.

So what about you?

What do you love about it and and what do you feel (even if it's only the FlightSim)?

I'll tell you my opinion later... ;)

I did have to select one ,but all of them! ,..really!, I like to twist the plane alittle bit with my rudder pedals, right a half a second before touch down,..

Once upon a time, when I still used auto-coordination, I felt an insane hatred towards visual stick-in-hand landings and went out of my way to have an ILS, even in a Cessna 140, then I put together a pedals controller and... nowadays ILS bores me to tears. ;D

SIH landings for me, thank you. ;)

PS
Or MIM (Mazza In Mano) landings, in italian. [smiley=lolk.gif]

i put crosswind even though that is not entirely correct.

I ike to come in to the runway at an angle, make an extremely sharp turn, crab sideways to the runway, and hold the rudder input until touchdown. ;D if i am too fast i just light the fires, go to the end of the runway, pull a loop and land the opposite direction. ;D

My preference in my small GA aircraft is to spot the threshold and orientation of the runway from a distance, than fly the approach straight in, adjusting the altitude and speed for a perfect line-up and touch-down... ;)...!

It's probably all wrong, because I'm not flying a proper "Circuit", and overall look-out, before landing... :-[...!

ATC wont let me anywhere near their Controlled Airports.... ::)...LOL...!
Los Angeles ATC tell me...."GO AWAY! Find somewhere else!".... ;D...!

But there again, most of my landings are on small grass/dirt air strips in the middle of nowhere.

I put crosswind, although I think ILS is a challenge and fun either!

And after you've seen this video:

...you know what do when I don't fly seriously around... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I almost always flew a standard pattern around the airport. Unless the terrain around a dirt strip in Alaska didn't allow me to, than I did whatever it took ;)

here are a couple of pics from my latest crosswind landing. i put in a 75 knot(cat 1 hurricane strength) crosswind and went somewhere i wouldn't hit anything but the ground.

afterburner just trying to make centerline

Today's crosswind landing:

Wind speed was 75 kts. ;D I had to look out of my left side window to land.  :o :o

Usually ILS, but the occasional visual can be fun.

The way I choose to land would, most of the time, break a normal plane  ;D

Start about 5 miles away and at least 10,000 feet up.

Lower nose to vertical dive.

Lower flaps.

Raise Spoilers (if applicable).

Start pulling up at 4000FT above the ground.*

Hit Thrust Reverse while in mid-air.

Land without a "Thud" and "Screech" of gear breaking and heavy metal dragging  ;).

*If in either a large plane, or a heavy plane. If neither apply: Much lower  :D

Best used with a C-130 ;)

How do you do it? In FS reverse is not possible if not on ground, that I know of. :-?

And you're right. Was FS REALLY real as M$ boasts, you'll never land in one piece, with that technique of yours. ;D

As I noted, it works best in a C-130. The Captain Sim one I know can have it's Reverse Thrust activated in mid-air. I basically took the "Tactical Landing" of a C-130, and injected it with lots of steroids  ::)
