Newbie Question - Traffic 2005 & Weather?

Postby Suhari » Thu Feb 01, 2007 6:48 am

Hi

I'm new to flightsim, and new to this site, although I've spent a while looking around.

Just upgraded my PC, and decided to look at FS.  When for 2004 rather than 'X' - my upgrade's good, but not leading edge!

I'm keen to install some add-ons - I will try some of the suggestions on the sticky in this forum, but at the moment aren't too interested in new aircraft.  I'd like to know which AI traffic/livery add-ons are recommended?  Is Traffic 2005 any good?  Plus, what can I do to improve weather effects?

Hope you can help.

Welcome aboard

One of the best freeware AI sites is www.projectai.com
Here you can find a lot of ai aircraft and flight plans for just about any airline out there EX[DELTA SOUTHWEST USAIR UNITED] and a hole lot more. All you have to do here is to down load all of the plans you want put them into a temp folder outside of FS then download the PAI installer and put it in the same folder as the plans. Run the installer and you are done. It is best to down load all of the plans you want before running the installer that way you only need to run the installer once.
Traffic for FS2004 is not a bad program but why buy something if you can get the same thing for free.

I should also point out that when you download or install any add on not to download or install any file directly into FS. You can run accross files that come with there own installer be very carfull when using these as some of them will install directly into fs and not give you a option to install elsewhere. Most of these files are for aircraft.
The weather in FS is not bad but one of the better weather programs out there is  ACTIVE SKY it is payware but well worth the money.
Another site for payware software is http://www.pcaviator.com/shop/index.php   8-)

Well I'm not sure exactly what you mean by weather "effects", but if you want the clouds etc. looking better than for freeware look no farther than FS Sky World on Avsim.com (search for fsw2004.zip).  This produces some awesome looking clouds etc.

Like Garymbuska said, projectai has some great stuff.  However, if you want updated traffic that covers the whole world, I could recommend something else to you called Tantris and Abobe Traffic.   PM me if you want more info ;).

Thanks for your replies - now I've got another question....

Just bought a Saitek Evo Wireless joystick - the damn thing won't calibrate properly.... in it's 'neutral' position, it always takes up a nose down attitude.  The saitek calibration applet that windows opens is rubbish.

I've got the same problem as this guy:

Rather than using FSUIPC, are there any other possible fixes?
