I'm guessing it really depends on where you are in the world, I am approximately 20 miles away from the Pentland Hills ,south of Edinburgh, so with my view of them in mind, I set my sim to 20 miles visibility and it seems to match my real life eyesite. Any more than this and it looks unreal, like a cartoon. I just wish there was a 15 mile viewpoint, as  10 is far too hazy and 20 is a little to clear.

Helms91's second picture matches my current FS9.cfg settings, and I find it close to reality. At least, it is in the part of the world I live in!  ;)
And indeed I was talking about global visibility settings (the FS9.cfg I mentioned corresponds to "sight distance" in the global weather settings window). I never customize my weather: either I use real world data or choose a theme.

Hi again

I didn't think about other parts of the world and how visibility is different depending on where one lives.
Like in California with the smog I doubt the visibility is a 1/4 of what we have here most of the time.
Maybe that is where the saying Carolina Blue Skys came from. I'm sure there are other places where one could see farther away than here. Some places just have more natural haze than others.

This is an example of how my FS looks like with the above mentioned visibility limit and the "fair weather" theme.
The hills on the left are quite visible, and even the mountains' shilouette is visible in the background. This is around my hometown airport (LIPU), and I find this visibility to be rather realistic.

That looks really good. Funny, when I tried it mine looked very odd. Far too short of view. Maybe some other setting(s) in my menu caused it. Knowing me I might have (but I don't think I did) left a number out of the edit. Anyway, I will agree that yours looks believable.
How far away is the mountian range off to the right?

Unless it's something in *my* setup which makes this setting work fine!
