Cessna Caravan, Condition?

Postby supernova45849850l » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:22 am

Hi all
While using my FSP I have purchased a Cessna Caravan as it can hold many passengers and is easy on fuel consumption.

My question is, there is a "condition" leaver on the throttle quadrant, what does this do? I do know that it does not work the same way as a mixture leaver on on SEP (single engine prop), so, what does it do. I remember a while back I posted this question about the Mooney Bravo mixture leaver and the response was great! So naturall I now know where to go with this question!

Thanks for your response

You are correct it is not the same thing as a mixture control, If I rember I think it is a means of pitch control for the prop. The Caravan has a turbo charged engine with a moveable or non fixed pitch prop I think the king air has the same type of control have you ever noticed that when the engine is not running the prop is in what is called a feathered posistion. They actually stay in the featherd posistion until you move the condition control forward toward the max pitch posistion. This is one of the reasons why it gets the gas mileage it does since you can control the pitch you can adjust it as you increase or decrease the throttle 8-)

hmm...

I have been getting major problems on final using elevators to control the aircraft, I find that I just dont get enough lift from the elevators fully up and have to use trim as well or otherwise the plane wont flare or follow the glide slope.

Can anyone confirm this is what the condition is for and where it should be set according to power levels?

I believe it to be for use on gravel runways to stop small stones getting into the engine :)

I am by no means an aircraft expert, but i believe the condition lever has nothing to do with prop pitch because there is a lever for that, i think it actually varies the fuel inflow, and the Inertail Separator, i always believed it had somthing to do with prop deicing or engine deicing.   :-?
What do I do you ask? I struggle! Then destroy! Then try to put back together what I just broke on accident.....

The condition lever in a C208 is primarily for start/shutdown.

I know it's just me, but I avoid Turbo-Props like the plague... >:(...!

I find it takes forever to slow the turbine(s) down, and therefore to reduce air speed quickly, prior to landing... :o...!

All my lovely old Piston Prop 'plane's engines, (with/without Prop Control), slow down immediately the throttle setting is reduced, and make a landing speed much more predictable... :-*...!

Turbo-Props are more reliable than Piston Props...
..but are not nearly as nice...or as exciting... :-*...!
Trust me...!

LOL...!
