That Sinking Feeling...

Postby Hai Perso Coyone? » Thu Dec 21, 2006 2:52 pm

Okay, so all my POSKY A340-300 aircraft have that sinking feeling on the left main gear...The aircraft just tilts towards the side...Anyone have a contact points fix for it...I'm not the greatest when it comes to that...:-X

First question: have you installed the FS9 patch? I had frequently this kind of problem before the patch. Ever since having installed the patch I have had no problems of that kind anymore. :-?

A solution to your problem is to download another POSKY A343, with another livery, and check it out. If that one has no problems, transfer the repaint from the old and non-working plane to the new and functional one.
There's but one real cure for human stupidity. It's called DEATH.

At the moment mourning the assassination of sarcasm and irony for the good of the "higher".

Hi Ash.

Here are my contact points for the Posky A340-300:

point.0= 1.000,  74.443,   0.000, -11.500, 1181.102, 0.000, 4.845, 72.000, 1.000, 1.400, 0.510,  7.000,  9.000, 0.000, 280.000, 300.000
point.1= 1.000, -13.500, -17.750, -12.300, 1574.803, 2.000, 2.450, -8.000, 0.700, 0.800, 0.550, 10.600, 11.800, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000
point.2= 1.000, -13.500,  17.750, -12.300, 1574.803, 1.000, 2.450, -8.000, 0.700, 0.800, 0.550, 10.900, 11.900, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000

The fourth one in on each line are the ones that control the contact point with the ground. Don't know if it's a possible v9 vs. 9.1 problem - my FS9 was 9.1 out of the box. The only time I've had any problem like this was when I was first into developing flight dynamics and had centre of gravity, gear location etc. all wrong - then the plane tilted. This probably wouldn't be the issue if you haven't adjusted the aircraft.cfg though.

I do have the 9.1 patch...Also, it doesn't have anything to do with the weights and such...I have made sure of that...I was wondering, do your A340 sink on the left main gear too? I think I should ask this at the POSKY boards too.. ;)

Yes, see what you mean. Make the adjustment in red - it'll cure the 'flat tyre' look!

Hello Micro,
Thanks but I am rather confused...This is the entry I have for the left main gear...not the nose gear...

//Main Gear (Left)
//point.2= 1.000, -11.067, -20.500, -13.500, 1574.803, 1.000, 4.845, -8.000, 2.200, 2.400, 0.550, 10.900, 11.900, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000
//point.3= 1.000, -11.067, -15.000, -13.500, 1574.803, 1.000, 4.845, -8.000, 2.200, 2.400, 0.550, 10.900, 11.900, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000
//point.4= 1.000,  -6.667, -20.500, -13.200, 1574.803, 1.000, 4.845, -8.000, 1.000, 2.400, 0.550, 10.900, 11.900, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000
//point.5= 1.000,  -6.667, -15.000, -13.200, 1574.803, 1.000, 4.845, -8.000, 1.000, 2.400, 0.550, 10.900, 11.900, 2.000, 280.000, 300.000

Can you please change the according values so that I may simply copy/paste over to my aircraft.cfg...Thanks!

Yes, Posky flight dynamics can do that to you!

I've had a quick investigate, and here's the complete reference to contact points from my aircraft.cfg:

Note that all the lines in red have a '//' in front of them - that means that FS ignores these lines (Posky seems to have assigned a point number for pretty much EACH WHEEL(!) which seems a little pointless - maybe that's why they're REMmed out). The active lines are in green, and this is where the issue is, I think. In the four active lines that control the gear contact points (nos. 0-3), 0 is the nosewheel, 1 the left gear, 2 the right gear and 3 the centre gear. The problem appears to be that if you use all four points, then it's not easy to get all the wheels to sit on the ground properly. If you REM out the centre wheel, then it's easy to fix - see picture.

Image

The only thing you miss then is the tyre smoke on touchdown from the centre wheels. It could probably be fixed properly, but that would take a little more time. You can fine-tune the contact by increasing or decreasing the negative fourth number in each line for lines 1 & 2 (left and right wheels). Increase lifts the wheel (eg -12.5 to -12.6), decrease drops it.

So just cut and paste the text in green to your contact points section - don't forget to back up your original first.

Alritey...Tire smoke...Who cares...all the rest of wheels will still produce smoke right? Also, will the center wheel still have rolling wheels or will it remain static? Thanks alot Micro :)

Okay, so all my POSKY A340-300 aircraft have that sinking feeling on the left main gear...The aircraft just tilts towards the side...Anyone have a contact points fix for it...I'm not the greatest when it comes to that...:-X

..thought about checking the tyre pressures on the left-hand main gear, Ash... ::)...?

It's often the simplest of things which sort the problem out... :-*...!

Paul....full of hot air... :P...!

I actually like it...Nothing like some smoke coming out of the tires after a good long flight...Quite realistic too... :D

@Micro: IT WORKED!!! Thanks alot for the help mate :) :) :)
