...but sometimes it just PISSES ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was on SHORT final into Sydney from Incheon in the overland A330 when all of a sudden the sim CRASHED!  GRRRRR!!!!

When this kind of thing happens I feel so....empty....I didn't get to finish my flight  :-/

I have had this problem in the past as well :'( but now I take no chances. At regular intervals in a flight I hit ' ; # return ' takes just a second and saves the flight as ' # ' just in case of disasters ;)

Ah, I love trouble free flights that don't take hours to complete. :D

But even so, you could always just repeat the approach, so that you have actually completed the flight.

Who's never had that same kind of problem, or even more exotic stuff, at times with FS? :D

Happiness lies in saving your flight regularly while in cruise and at least three times while descending to land. ;)

This of course doesn't work if you fly online. If you do fly online, you must suck it up. :-/

Crashes can be caused by something inside FS (like addons) as well as by anything in your system; the mere fact that FS is crashing doesn't mean FS is to blame.  ;)
Anyway, I too use to save my flights regularly, but one must admit that resuming a saved flight is not the same thing as flying it all without interruptions.

Yes, thats why I don't really save.  When Im doing a flight, Im doing the flight because I felt the desire to do the flight at the time of the flight.  I don't want to save and come back.  But landing is my favorite part, and to finish such a long flight and just before landing have the sim crash is just heartbreaking.

Hey Jakemaster!

Did the sim crash completely, or just to the desktop? Mine drops to the desktop when my antivirus auto-updates.

You can get an add-on module from Pete Dowson's website called Autosave which saves the flight automatically in the background every minute, and saves the last ten on a rolling basis, so you can always re-start your flight at any point in the last ten minutes.

Saves beating yourself up! (www.schiratti.com/dowson.html).

Microlight, it just crashed.  Even got an 'FS9 has had an error and must close.  We are sorry'.

Does Autosave affect performance?  I dont want my sim to stutter every minute when it saves...

Jake,

No; autosave appears to operate entirely invisibly with no stutters - on my system at least, and I suspect it's not superior to yours. (2gHz PIV/1gB RAM/Radeon 9200SE).

Has this been happening long, or has it only started recently? Does it happen say once a day, or does it keep happening? If so, what add-ons have you put on recently? Might be worth tracing backwards and removing items until you find the one that's probably causing the problem.

Just a thought - are you using the Engine Exhaust System (by yours truly) for simulated engine heat haze? There was a glitch with that which caused the sim to crash, which I fixed. If you are, let me know.

;)
