Null zone?

I've just been asked What's the Null Zone?    Its a setting for joysticks & I've searched fs help, etc, but cannot find the answer, so I'd appreciate someone bringing me up to speed about this!!

The Null zone setting refers to how much "dead space" there is in a particular joystick axis center position. For example, with a large null zone, you can to move the joystick slightly before it affects the aircraft's controls in Flight Simulator.

Oh dear - I should have thought of the Blessed MKB info site.   But then, why didn't my

I meant I hope the Null Zone isn't catching as I'm null enough already  :'(

BUT - having been pointed to the knowledge base I'll take full advantage myself now I know where it is.

Roger for the null zone, but the problem is that the MS KB article contains a statement about the axis sensitivity that is just plain untrue.
"The Sensitivity setting determines how sensitive the joystick is for a particular axis. For example, with high sensitivity, the slightest movement of the joystick has a large effect on the aircraft's controls in Flight Simulator."
NOPE.
Reducing the sensitivity has a completely different effect, at least in my case (but I don't see why with different hardware it should behave differently): it reduces the axis excursion. Try setting the ailerons sensitivity to the minimum, and see how far the yoke will go.  ::)
As a result, the sensitivity control is almost useless.  :-X
With a GOOD joystick (mine isn't) and the mandatory FSUIPC, FS2004 will likely give an acceptable response.
