Always difficult to advise, arty, not knowing how experienced you are. :)
Assuming you're fairly new to FS, following may help:-
1. Call up the Map, locate your home airport, estimate the rough direction in degrees, fly that course until you're within 30 miles, contact ATC to get the runway in use, then use the Map again to plan the approach. If need be ask ATC for airport direction (which will be given using the 'clock code,' e.g. 'Airport is eleven o'clock, twenty miles.'
OR 2. File IFR in the air. Press the correct number on the ATC Panel ('Create an IFR Flightplan'), which will bring up the Flight Planner. Enter any nearby airport as the origin and your home airport as the destination; just make sure that the set height is your present height. Then file the Flightplan - ATC will then give you vectors to get you on course and ALSO give you instructions/clearances for the descent, approach, and landing.
