Where does FS9.EXE live...?

Postby TerryUK » Sun Nov 05, 2006 5:41 pm

I have to "simply unzip the ZIP file into the main subfolder of
FS2004 (where the FS9.EXE file resides)" but I don't know where to find this place.    Don't yell at me.  Just tell me where it is, please.... someone  ::)

Many thanks for help in my unending fs9 education.

What are you trying to install? FS9.EXE lives in the FS9 root directory which is in this location by default:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

Please take my tip & ignore all advice/instructions to extract zipfiles direct to this location. It's much safer to extract them to a temp folder first & then paste the files in manually.

Hi there Hagar.    I am very keen on British aircraft & I saw this Hawker 800XP by Chuck Dome, so thought I'd see what it was like.    The instructiion came from that.

Don't worry - I would have unzipped to a seperate folder & then  pasted.   I have read enough warnings about not doing that here.   I hope I'm learnig fast!!   I have seen some weird installation instructions so I usually tread carefully.

This is what Mr.Dome says:
To install, simply unzip the ZIP file into the main subfolder of FS2004 (where the FS9.EXE file resides).  In that way, the custom gauges will be placed automatically in the correct subfolder.  DO NOT unzip the package into the \AIRCRAFT subfolder of FS2004, and be sure to duplicate the original folder structure when unzipping.

This is the first time I have seen an instruction not to put files into Aircraft.   I'm not sure what to do!!  I might give it a miss!

Unzip the aircraft to another folder...Place the appropriate contents into the appropriate root FS9 folders...For example..Aircraft contents go into Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft Folder...Gauges go into Flight Simulator 9\Gauges...Not too hard...At least I think so...The hardest thing to learn in FS9 (for me at least) was custom AI making...Now even that seems too easy ;) ;)

Hi Terry. Installing this should be a piece of cake. When you extract the zipfile you should find folders named Aircraft, Gauges etc. just like the folder structure of the FS9 main directory. Simply paste the contents of these folders into their equivalents in FS9.

That's all there is to it. If all addons were configured like this there would be no need for complex instructions or people like me.

PS. Oops. Ashar beat me to it. I must be slipping in my old age. :P

Update: I suspect this is an early FSDS V1.6 model originally created for FS2002 that's not fully compatible with FS9. I suggest looking round for a later example.

I have followed the usual Aircraft/Gauges installation routine & there it is.   It works alright, but it's not what I would call a 'proper' aircraft like, say, Rick Piper's Vickers Viking.   I shalln't use it so will now remove it ::)

Thanks for your help!

Terry.
