Longest Runway in FS9?

Postby Mav_316 » Sat Sep 23, 2006 8:51 pm

KEDW Edwards AFB has 15,000 feet of runway.

Are there any other airports in FS9 that are longer or close to 15k?
I am whatever you say I am 1 :P

I don't know, but you can change any runway in the game with AFCAD and make it as long as you want. ;)

Pretty sure that's the longest Non-addon runway. The Groomlake/Dreamland/Area 51 is longer I believe. Not sure on that though

It's not in the Default FS9. You have to download/buy an add-on for it. I believe there's one, maybe two, here at SimV (Search for Dreamland, it's fairly recent) and Alphasim makes a Groom Lake scenary with The Ranch as it's code if I recall correctly.

There was no prize I was just asking if anyone knew of any airports in Fs9 that was 15k or longer. I will take a look at that X68 Nasa facility. Try to look up that Russia airport.

I am not knowledgeable about Afcad and it is kind of late in the game to start learning now! But the whole purpose of my asking this question is to find airports that I can comfortably take off in my C-5 Galaxy. Anything around 11,000 feet and the C-5 seems to get enough airspeed to just make it up into the air at the very end of the runway.

I was just kidding about the prize. ;D
Seriously though, AFCAD is super easy to use. I can give you the steps right now.

1.Start AFCAD
2.File/Open Aiport
3.Enter airport ID in search box and click search
4.You'll see the stock airport listed, click OK
5. Now you'll see your airport, right click on the runway and choose properties
6.Under Runway Data you'll see length and width, change them to the values you want and click ok
7.Hit File and Save As, it will save as a mod file and will not change the default airport file. If you want to return to the default setup, the mod file is simply removed. The mod file is a .bgl file which begins with  AF2_ and lives here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery

I saw some really big, gray bird take-off from the airbase in Vegas (Nellis?) the other day. It looked like a C-5 but not as long...
