Oh.. and for the opposite (almost forgot).. Say you find yourself a little high on an ILS approach.  If you pull back on the power, you'll surely enough get back on the glidepath.. But now you're venturing into performance flying.. and your margin for error  is gone... and trying to get back in front of the power curve AND stay on the glidepath, isn't much fun.

Pickup... you must have a customized panel for the DC-3..  Mine isn't equipped with an ILS..

I just flew the default 737 and as far as the direction I've hi-jacked this thread  :-X  it's apples and oranges. I obviously don't know how realistic the 737 is (on that note.. get the RealAir C172, if you wanna practice C172 stuff in FS9), but it seems to be very forgiving. Jets differ so much (especially big ones) when it comes to the power curve (throttle response is slow) so flying by control is more important. The only problem I had with the ILS approach was my own fault, as I don't have enough practice configuring for an ILS approach (or even know the airspeeds). My impression is that you'd fly a 737 just about the same way, ILS or visual. I'm probaly wrong. Someone will probably explain it better.

Anyway.. as far as the controls  go.. they seemed fine.

Yes I have modified a couple of panels up for the DC3 to make it a little easier for IFR approaches. I took a couple of screen shots to show you but I can't figure out how to show them on this page. Just about everything I do is IFR. I have the real air 172 and it is pretty good, but a bit slow so I have modifed some twins up and it is a little more fun with the throttle quadrant and a bit faster. Thankyou again

You're welcome.. And if I can humbly suggest a plane that's also very realistic for IFR practice (and x-wind landings) try my C210P:

Your computer spec's look good, but this may be a frame rate
problem.

What are your FPS?

The FPS stay up not too bad usually around 28 and I have it set for 29. It does pause for a couple of seconds every once in awhile in a high graphics area to reload and that does mess things up abit and if you don't notice it and keep correcting then you over control, but for the most part it runs pretty good. I'm not sure if its the processers fault or the video card that has to pause and reload.

Hey gents, the REAL problem with this whole issue is that the CH yoke is JUNK!!!, at least the elevator function.  These people have bazillions of dollars but continue to turn out a product that aggravates the bejesus out of every serious simmer.  THERE IS NO FIX, that I know of for the sticking yoke.  Repeated pleas to CH are lost in cyberspace.  Someone is really missing a great market for a two or three hundred dollar quality yoke.  I know there are some (wish I could remember the name) for around five hundred bucks, but the aggravation overwhelms me.  It's no wonder a fellow can't follow the GS on the way down.  SIGH...

I should have mentioned that I customized my CH yoke..

There are only two springs in there, for aileron centering; and elevator centering depends on them too, indirectly.

I added two springs for elevator centering (rubber bands actually).

I'm not going to go into specifics and risk hate mail for all the ruined yokes  :P ...  but if you open it up (I'm not reocomending that  ;)  )  ..  you'll see what I mean..

I'm pretty sure I'll be replacing the potentiometers too, or at least cleaning them.. as they seem to be getting touchy.

Thanks, Brett.  I, too, have considered adding springs, but I think the REAL problem is the shaft and sleeve in which it rides.  Plastic just doesn't get it.  There are so many good things about that CH yoke that it's a shame they half-assed this one important function.

Vis-a-vis the potential hate mail, I appreciate your having the nads to make the suggestion.  Too many wimps and crybabies in the world these days.  The Elite Mooney yoke looks solid, but not enough bells and whistles for me.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks again, Joe

My CH yoke works just fine and has for 3 years so far.  Light spray of lock dry graphite on the shaft once a year.

best,

Yup I think you Gents have nailed it with the Yoke thing.
I really don't know how the inners work on the Ch Yoke, but I think the sensors in there that detect the shaft moving back and forth,, don't detect the little moves, and it takes a fair movement, before it will detect anything making the elevator control appear worn out. I have had this yoke for about 5 years but I don't know if there is any adjustment or cleaning of the sensor you can do internally. The shaft is not sticky it just doesn't detect any small movements you need to keep the glide path nailed. Maybe I should give Ch support a email and see what they say.
Thankyou all again for all your suggestions and support.
