Terrain trouble

Postby beaky » Sat Oct 07, 2006 7:25 pm

Anybody know what this is all about? A cross-shaped hole seems to follow me around. Very annoying. Only using SRTM mesh, but even with that disabled, I see it... so far, only in S. America.

What do you mean it follows you around? ???

It moves with you? :o

Yes. It seems as if the terrain is notched out at a certain distance below the airplane (except for most lakes and all airports), and the airplane is always in the center. Not sure how far down it goes (not to MSL, at any rate), but it really spoils skimming mountaintops when cruising at FL 230.
It looks like this from above:

I'll be damned. This is the very first time I've heard of this problem. ???

Have you tried to delete the FS9.cfg and make it regenerate?

Are you sure there are absolutely no additional sceneries?

Have you tried (could be) to change videocard driver?

If all the questions above are positive...

I am sorry, it's reinstall time. :(

I've tried #1; no go. Haven't diasbled every add-on, but that's a good idea. Haven't messed with the gfx drivers in a long time either: the strangest part of this is that it only seems to happen in some parts of South America. Bizarre...

The new rig will be up and running in about a week, so I may not bother with this.

Tried disabling all scenery add-ons, and deleted the cfg file... still there.

Hmm.  That is an odd one.  Ive seen the cross shaped square follow people before, but that was always a TEXTURE issue, where the texture was darker in the cross.  But terrain is a new one.  Unfortunately if deleting the FS9.cfg doesnt work then I think you need to reinstal.

TSC.

Maybe I should just pour the hot water out of the kettle onto my crotch- then I'll have a real problem, which will put this one in its proper perspective.

You could be on to something there- I should try re-installing my backup folder, because I have added a few things there.
but as far as I recall, it's been a while since I did that, and I've only recently noticed this problem.

It has to be a problem with a recently added scenery because that cross is where FS2004 creates really detailed scenery. I. E. the scenery texture is terrible outside that cross. did you try deleting the scenery.cfg? it will be regenertated.
