general aircraft installation problems

Postby Frosti » Sat Oct 07, 2006 3:24 am

hello
despite all the simple instructions for installing a downloaded aircraft ("Unzip all files to the aircraft folder of Flight Simulator") I can't make them work in my FS.  ???
They were not shown in the list of aircrafts to chose from in the game. I tryed it several months before and today I cannot make it work neither. Is there a secret trick everybody knows but me?
thanks

The secret trick is not to unzip direct to the folder.

Unzip the files into a neutral folder, say on your desktop, and then copy the files into their respective folders in the sim.

Doing it in the described way usually means that you can find any issues by refering you the original and cross referencing to the sim.

thanks for the try to help, but it didn't work..
I explain a little more how it looks like in my folders:
There is the \Flight2004\Aircraft\ folder with all the twenty or more aircraft-subfolders (for the 20 or more aircrafts that were implemented in the game). And there is also the folder for my downloaded aircraft. In this folder there is the aircraft.cfg and the newplane.air and there are the standard sub folders like "model", "panel" and "sound" with the .cfgs and .mdls in them.
I thought this would be right. This folder structure had already been in the zip file. And it looks like in the other plane folders.
Or is there maybe a global config file where my new planes have to be registred ??

Hi Frosti,

As I understand correctly you have a seperate folder inside FS with your downloaded and unzipped aircrafts? No wonder it's not working. Make sure your downloaded and unzipped aircraft end up in the aircraft folder of FS9 (where the default planes also are). Put Gauges in the folder Gauges, Effects in Effects. Hope this clears things up a bit.

Crash ;)

Edit: Reading your post I figured you also put everything together. Models in a subfolder Models, Panels to Panels. Don't. Keep your aircraft seperated.

Crash ;)

Thanks for all the helping anwsers!
After I renamed the "sim=..." and "ui-type=..." line in the aircraft.cfg with the actual airplane and file names it works!

thanks again and greetings from EDDT
