Can FS9 run from a seperate HD?

Will be rebuilding my system in the next few days, one of the additions will be a second hard drive. Question is, does FS9 have to be on the same HD as windows or doesn't it matter? Are there any other things I should know about useing two drives, does it effect performance, etc?

FS9 should run fine from a separate HD. I know several people here do just that. The only thing that might cause problems is that (unlike previous versions of FS) some FS9 files are outside the usual FS root directory & might end up on your main HD.

I've run FS2002 from a backup install on a remote USB drive & it ran better than when installed to the HD in the PC.

Shouldn't be any problems, period.
I run XP Pro on one drive, CFS3/Over Flanders Fields on a seperate partition on the same drive, FS2004 on my second drive which is also partitioned for my Golden Wings 3 install.
Both are 10,000 rpm drives and there is no speed loss.
The only hassles you can have are with installers which need to be pointed at the correct drive, easily done.
Seperate drives are the way to go, even better if you partition them.
I do backup to an 800G LaCie remote drive so my system remains uncluttered .....  8)

It does not cause any problems. I have FS9 installed on a separate hard drive. It is my flight sim drive. I have 2 installations of FS installed. A version for single and twin aircraft and a version for 3 and 4 engined aircraft. I use the CH Throttle, and with two installations I do not have to recallibrate my exteranal "gadgets" each time I change aircraft. I have FS on a separate drive since I started using it. I have never encountered any problem. Just remember that your FS9.cfg file will still be located on the hard drive that has your windows operating system.

I have four installs of FS9 running on my system, which has
two drives. The original FAT32 drive contains 2 versions while
the addon drive ( NTFS ) has the other two.

I also have common "Addon Scenery" and "Scenery" directories
on the FAT32 drive. These are shared by all four FS9 installs.

No problems with this setup. The one thing I always do is install
new aircraft/scenery/etc to a TEMP folder and then move it to
whichever FS9 install I want it in. ( Scenery goes in the common
folder ). If an "auto install" program doesn't let me choose my
install path, as I believe all SHOULD, then it doesn't get installed
on my system!

What Gypsy_Baron said is about the only drawback to FS on a seperate HD. Some add on installers have a problem with this. It can also cause some headache when installing some payware add ons that need to be unlocked or activated. In the last case you can usually get help from the add on's support site.
