High Altitude Water distortion

Postby Alphajet_Enthusiast » Thu Mar 02, 2006 1:12 pm

Just wondering, at high altitude water in the distance becomes distorted. The water far away appears like waves would right next to my Cessna at 100ft asl.

Here's a shot to demonstrate...

Yet at low altitude it is fine.

Any idea how to get this to go? I use perfectwatr.zip but it appears to happen with all water addons like Silverwings and morewatr.zip.

Cheers

That happens. Just set the visibility to about 30-50 miles. It's more realistic that way anyway. :)

I would say thanks, but I cant set sight distance that low, my sim wont allow me. Minimum is 60miles/96km...

However then the water still looks like this:

Oww, now that I think of it, you probably mean on the weather settings...
Okay, sorted, thanks.  :)

Damn, even with 20 Mile visibility it still shows up...

I guess there's just no way past this, too bad... :P
Thanks for the help! :)

Well then I don't know what to tell you. :) I always have my visibilty set at 40 miles and that takes care of that problem. :P

That's a part of FS, Alpha.  It's unfixable.  What you're seeing is the area outside of the "detail box."  It's highly visible over water, but that same exact thing exists when you're over land.

Just a thought, are you sure you set the ceiling for the visibilty at the height your flying, or above?

Possibly terrain texture size?  I don't know if it will extend further out slightly, or just change what already shows up, but it's worth a go.  But yes, I have that problem as well.  I think with FSEnvironment it isn't as painful.
