The Dem4km.bgl file is missing?

Postby kraftwerk1976 » Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:49 am

:-[ Hi, all.  I am having trouble with FS2004.  First off, I was playing FS2004 as usual, then I decided to download the Gee Bee R-1 airplane.  Everything was going fine until I deleted the Gee Bee R-1 plane.  After I deleted it (that was the ONLY thing different I have done), I get the message saying something about "Gee Bee R-1 Initialize failure" or something like that...and I am unable to access/play the game.  Then later, I get "The Dem4km.bgl file is missing or damaged.  Please reinstall flight simulator to restore or repair the file."  Well, I have uninstalled and reinstalled FS2004 three times.  Then later, I tried to use the "system restore" feature on my computer where I can "go back" to a time in the computer when it was running good.  I tried doing that three times as well, but that did not work either.  What is wrong?  I cannot believe that deleting ONE plane would cause this problem, but that is literally the only thing different I have done to this computer.    Can someone please send me the dem4km.bgl file ?  That seems to be the big problem here.  I have no idea what to do.  Nothing I do seems to help.  Thanks.

Nobody can send you the file as that is piracy!
Okay if you look on the FS9 CDs I think (not sure as it has been a while) that you can locate the file on disk 2.

.....what was your default flight at the time....if FS9 was trying to start with the plane you deleted maybe this was why you got the Initialize failure ..........maybe download the plane again and put it back in the aircraft folder?...or have you tried that?

...As for the Dem4km.bgl file, which I believe has to do with the default scenery, it lives in FS9\Scenery\Base\Scenery,  (8MB in size.)

Just get your original FS9 disks out and reinstall the file. It's on Disk 3 in msgame8.cab ..just copy and paste it to replace the damaged one......hope this helps.............commoner ;)

...Must be longer than you think Ozzy..it's disc #3 ;)

..LOL.  I suppose that's the main problem with only having just the one braincell.........having two as I do, one kicks in when the other is having an off day :P

...cheers.........commoner ;D

--Thanks for the help.  The file was indeed on disc three.  However, now it says that "image dlgstdtrans.bmp cannot be loaded."  Other than the dlgstdtrans.bmp, it also gives other files such as fltstd.bmp[3], btnstd.bmp[6], dlgalert.bmp, iconinfo.bmp, iconexcl.bmp, iconques.bmp.

--I don't know why when I reinstall the game, these files are always missing.  I have found the above files, and they are on disc two, but what folder do I put them in?  I'm afraid I will just have to manually copy and paste all of the files to get the game to work.

--I downloaded the plane last night to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't.  I will try it again, though.

...the files you mention are all in the Uires folder which is in the main FS9 folder..........so put them in there.

..I downloaded the plane and installed it and deleted it a few times with no trouble so I think it is either just a coincidence that your trouble is to do with that or you deleted something else at the same time by mistake. The files are all to do with starting screen or selection screens........and so there is no wonder you can't get FS9 to fire up..........

keep going and you will get there eventually...hopefully ;)

:) Well, I really cannot think of anything I would have deleted other than that airplane, but nonetheless, I very well could have, haha.  Anyway, on the fourth time of unistall/reinstalling, it finally worked.  I went ahead and re-downloaded the plane and will just keep it in there, haha.  I of course, lost all of my downloaded planes and saved flights, but that's ok.  Thanks for your help!

....well thank goodness for that..it can be a right pain at times........I would be inclined to check your default flight.........if you have "Previous flight " as the default and you delete the aircraft then FS9 will give the initialization warning and shut you down or ask you to close.........commoner

:)  Haha, thank goodness, indeed!  I didn't really know how much I enjoyed/appreciated this game until it was unavailable to me, haha.  I also have CFS 1, FS98 and FS2002, but FS2004 is really cool.  I wonder if FSX/10/2006 or whatever it will be called will be a bunch better.  Ahh, we will see in the near future.  Thanks again.
