A Google search for the "Weather.dll" and "Panels.dll" fault show a frequent problem with users of FS 2004...
Very few have found a definate cure for it... :'(...!

Paul..Weather...It's snowing at the moment... :o...!

I never liked unexplained problems & there must be a logical reason for it. I would say that both these faults are due to an addon of some sort, probably corrupt modules (DLL files). I've read of some cases of 3rd party modules giving problems when installing the FS9.1 update. In this case read the instructions carefully before installing the update. Other problems have been reported with FSUIPC & even video card driver conflicts. The trouble is that there's so many variables these days that tracking these things down can be very difficult.

PS. It would be interesting to know which method you use for exiting/shutting down FS9. I always use the Ctrl + C option.

I use one of two methods to shut FS 2004 down:

1) The "Exit" option from the drop down "Flights" menu when in full screen mode.
2) The "Close" button option in the top right-hand corner, when in Windowed Mode.

Both of which create the particular "shut-down" fault, resulting in a re-start of the program!

Cheers...!

Method 1 is the same as Ctrl + C. I suspect the Weather.dll problem might be caused by using Real Weather which I've never tried. This might be where the bug is rather than with FS itself.

Must admit that I use 'real weather' more often than not (I suppose I can afford to, mostly flying in Oz! :)) but I've never had shutdown problems.

Then it occurred to me that I use a different method to shut down these days. Specifically, I don't use the main menu.

I just press 'Esc' and it asks me if I want to exit the flight, 'Yes/No'. 'Yes' ('Enter') takes me back to the 'Saved Flights' screen; 'Esc' again, it asks if I want to exit FS, 'Enter' again and it closes down, no problems.

Maybe anyone having troubles should try that method?

I've had it shut down/not shut down even not shut down in Ctrl+Alt+Delete after telling it to and getting a "waiting for a response from you" message.

Holy snappin' ducksh!t Batman,I've just told you FIVE times to shutdown. I AM NOT ANGRY(as pulls power outlet from wall)

Anyway, these devices we use and the programs we run are designed by human beings and if you look out your window or even contemplate your friends and neighbours you can scare yourself sometimes when you wonder how we got as far as we have.

If you do not have a problem with the program consider yourself blessed-me,I'm not going to lose any sleep over it-----I'll turn it off at the wall ;D

...Now it's getting really confusing... ::)...!
Was Lysanders original thread aimed at the problem of shutting down Windows XP, or was it the problem shutting down FS 2004...?

I don't have any problems in shutting down Windows XP, but trying to shut down FS 2004 is the one which gives me a headache... :o...!

Paul...I HATE Weather.dll's....;)... ;D...!

The way I read it the original topic concerns shutting down WinXP after running FS2004. This indicates to me that the problem is caused by FS2004 not shutting down properly for whatever reason. I still think problems shutting down FS2004 are most likely caused by an addon & not a bug with FS2004 itself.

I was given to understand that WinXP is a stable OS giving far less problems than with previous ones. After recently going to the expense of getting a brand new machine with WinXP installed I can only say that I've had far more problems with it in a short time than I ever did in years of using Win98/Me. ::)

Can a few of us get together and start a "Windows '98SE Appreciation Society"...?
A car bumper sticker will do for a start... ;D...!

I'm all for supporting the under-dog...
LOL...!
I must say that I never had as much Spam etc, in my Inbox, or Trojans/Virus's with Win '98 as I do with Win XP...!

..and they call it "Progress"....LOL...!

I reckon that we Win '98 Users got so thin on the ground after a while, that the Hacker-Arse'oles moved over to Win XP and finally left us alone... ;D...!

Paul...(I've still got my lovely old Win '98SE on my second hard drive for all my "old stuff"...).... ;)...!

..mm...well.....the title of the thread is...."Problem shutting down WindowsXP", but whatever the intention was, looking at that link gives you a little insight into just how stable Win XP is :P

...scares the life out of me ....and that's only the problems for closing down.......... :o

...must say though that I have not had any trouble with it personally, or with closing FS9, though I still haven't "bitten the bullet and gone for SP2............... ???
