FS9.1 Patch removal problem... please help!!!

Postby Si_Combat » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:25 am

Hi to all out there in the Flight Sim Community...

I need some help from those who can offer... I tried the FS9.1 patch early in January along with an old, but beautifully kept Microsoft force feedback joystick and I bought an Audigy Sound card to be able to use it.

When I ran FS9 with the patch installed I found that it was playing silly beggers with my FS9. At first I assumed it may have been the new hardware causing the issues but I decided to uninstall the patch first... Everything worked fine after that... Now... I recently bought Traffic 2005 to replace my Ultimate Traffic but the software will not install unless I have the FS 9.1 pacth installed (which is provived on the Traffic disc).

Traffic 2005 will not install unless FS9.1 patch is installed and when I try to install the patch AGAIN I get an on screen message telling me "FS9.1 already seems to be installed. Installation Cancelled..."

I have checked the FS9 Version number through the HELP and it reads 9.0... What did I do wrong when I uninstalled the patch the first time or is this a common QUERK with this patch removal thingie?????

  Someone please HELP...!!!

  Si.

My only solution is to reinstall fs9...Did you manually uninstall the patch?  Some files could have been left behind...

If it was manually uninstalled and you didn't use the Control Panel Add/Remove programs, it can cause this problem since it's still in the regesitry.

I used my control panel to uninstall the patch and this is where my confusion lies... It seemed to be a text-book uninstall until I tried to install Traffic 2005 yesterday morning...
Do you guys reckon uninstalling FS9 would do the trick and, more importantly, would it interfere with my 28GB, or 1years worth of hard fine tuning????

....mmm...I have uninstalled the patch on a few occasions and always use the uninstaller in my main FS9 folder.....there is an icon which looks like a suspension bridge called  FS9UpdateUninstall.exe  this has always done the job for me......there is no mention of the patch in my Add/Remove list  so I have to use this....commoner

...BTW just watch if you look for it as the long file name doesnt all show and it can look as though the name is FS9Update........hovering the mouse over it reveals the full name...just thought I't point that out. ;)

I have just checked for the update icon in my main FS9 Folder and it's deffo not there mate...
The thing is, I can't reinstall the patch in order to uninstall it because, for some reason, the PC thinks the patch is still there and it cancel's the installation process... Commoner, you-da-man here mate, do you think I should:
  (a) uninstall fs9,
  or
  (b) contact "Just Flight" for their advise...

Dont know if this will help or not, but try removeing the '....[FS2004]\Backup\' folder.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_update9.1_english.asp#uninstall

?? it might still be a registry issue??

..lol...Hi Si......I may be the man but I don't know what your problem is...however.........here is the method given by Microsoft.........

..........How to Uninstall the Update

If you want to uninstall the update, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the Flight Simulator root directory.
  2. Double-click the FS9UpdateUninstall.exe icon.
  3. Delete the BACKUP folder.

Note: After uninstalling the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (Update) you will need to delete the BACKUP folder, as it is not removed by the uninstaller program.

......note the reference to "the FS9UpdateUninstall.exe icon" have another look and make sure it isn't a hidden file..

.........see also the bit about deleting the BACKUP folder......I left mine in the recycle bin for a while just in case I wanted it back.............

.......try that and as for the other things, well you must decide about uninstalling FS9...you could contact Just Flight but can't see what they would do..

....cheers....commoner.

Well done Dave3cu & Commoner... I knew I could count on the community experts out there... I bined the backup folder, like you's suggested, and the patch installed successfully. ;D
Even more good news is that, for some reason, my FS9 is running glitch-free with the patch installed... WEIRD when you consider FS9 wanted to cough it up the first time I tried it...
So I must say a HUGE THANK YOU for all your help 'n' advise guys... I couldn't have done it without yuzzzz...
  Cheers...

   :D A very greatful Si_ Combat... :D
