Paper trees ?

Postby caveman16 » Sun Feb 19, 2006 1:04 pm

Hi Guys and Ladies,   I recently bought the FS9 and was surprized to discover that all my "trees" look like paper cutouts ???    No matter what I do, they still look the same .     I will get and install some trees [suggestions  appreciated ].   My question is :  are they really like that in the sim  or am I doing something wrong that is adversely  affecting other parts of the Sim ?  I fly VFR in SE Alaska and have installed  RealScene 2004 USA Terrain and Landclass Data Sets  [ size 3 GB + ].   Most of my settings are max  w/ 12 - 15  fps.       Thanks for your input.        caveman

lol...how close to the trees are you caveman? Planes and trees aren't supposed to get near to each other it is damned dangerous...........if I get really close to them, yes they are like cut outs in the sim..........but viewed from a reasonable distance they look more like real trees..........commoner. ;D

Well, that's how I see them ..........

Hi Caveman.
I think I'm right in saying that all the default trees are built using a "Cross" design when viewed from above so don't look all that good from very close or when viewed from directly overhead, but at some angles don't appear too bad.
There are other tree textures available but I think they are all designed around the same "cross system" so have the same problems.
I'm sure if I'm wrong some one will let us know. ;D

All the best.

Just imagine the enourmous processing power that would be required to render thousands of different, complex auto-gen, tree structures in 3D.... :o... :o... :o...!

So the simple 2D trees can be quickly rendered in real time as they change position and size... ;D...!

I would rather have better performance than 12-15fps than have some addon scenery

Hey Guys,   Thanks for the input. Do you know where I can get Gerish Grays Trees and would they work in FS9 ?    Hey Viper- - -  I'd love to have 30 fps .  The money tree slows some of us old guys living on fixed incomes down somewhat .   I'm looking forward to this fall and FSX  and a NEW  "hot PC".  caveman

Just another thought - - - -  My Gateway  PC is like me in a way - - - old and somewhat slow at times ,   BUT- - - my settings are on MAX  and I "fly" an old slow ultralight and enjoy the scenery w/o any STUDDERS or slowdowns.   I'm all over the mountain passes, lakes, and whatever enjoying every bit of it.  And all the time staying sharp as a tack with my navigational skills.  A REAL challenge out in the middle of nowhere.      enjoy- - - caveman
