Scenery install Question

Postby wilderobb » Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:23 pm

I'm just getting started with scenery updates and it seems the files I download all come with files  called  "scenery" and "textures". I'm not sure how to structure the files or where to put them. Do I rename these files or put them in a folder with another name as I already have a addon scenery called "Scenery". I hope this is clear enought. :o Wildie

Hi, Wilde.

You'll find in your zip folder the main folder, then if you click on it, the two folders named scenery and texture. Go back to your main folder, and stick that into your C-Program Files-Microsoft Games-FS9-Addon Scenery folder.

Then, start flight sim. On the main menu on left, go to Settings. You'll see a box on the bottom named "Scenery Library". Click on it. Then on the right, you'll see somewhere in that stack a box that says "add area". Click on that, then go to "addon scenery" and look for the folder you put in in the first step. Then close flight simulator and restart. You're good to go. :)

The subfolder "scenery" in the Addon Scenery folder is for AFCAD files and that of the like.

The texture folder is for all those surfaces that are shown in the scenery package, so everything dosen't show up grey.

Hope this helps. :)

Rimshot:

Am starting to doodle with scenery also. Foolowing your instructions I'm missing a step in there somewhere. OK here's what I've done so far.

Unzipped the downloaded scenery and placed in a temporary folder.

Menued my way to the Add-On Scenery (AOS) using the Window Explorer. When I clicked on the AOS however, there were two files "scenery" and "texture" already but they were empty. I copied/pasted the new scenery and texture to the AOS.

Then I started FS9, went to Settings, Scenery Library and clicked on "Add Area". The results showed a list of sceneries with check boxes on the left. I saw the Add On Scenery file in the list. Here's where I strayed somewhat.

When you said "click on that, then go to "Addon scenery" and look for the folder you put in in the first step. Did you mean the Addon Scenery in the scenery list? What shoud it show when I click on it?

While at it, do I follow the same procedure if I was to add the SRTM Mesh Terrain file available for download in the Simviation?

Thanks.

Bubblehead.

See if my Scenery Clinic helps. http://www.simviation.com/lair/fs2004sc.htm

Basically the same as what James (Rimshot) said but with pictures.

If my installation is correct, how do I use the new scenery I've just loaded? Also, what do you think of the "FS Terrain" CD. It sells for thirty bucks at Frye's. Perhaps it's worh the hassle of individually loading all the files in the SRTM Mesh Terrain by Mr. Ramos.

Depends on the type of scenery. New airports should be listed on the selection menu. To see terrain mesh or other updates to the default scenery you will have to go to the appropriate area.
