Add'it a Center fuel tank

Postby Batman93210 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:11 am

Hi yall  ;D

I add'it a center fuel tank to a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser.
I need to increas the max fuel weight, or do I need to increas the max_gross_weight in the aircraft cgf. I'm not sher wich of the numbers I need to work with. Well heres how the weight figers look in the aircraft cgf.

[fuel]
max fuel 9000 USG=46,740lbs @ 6.0lbs/USG

LeftMain=0,-15,0,3895,0

RightMain=0,15 ,0,3895,0

Center1=0.05, 0.0, 0,2500, 60

fuel_type=1.000000
number_of_tank_selectors=3
electric_pump=1

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
;load assumed symetrical versus CoG

reference_datum_position=0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
empty_weight_CG_position=0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
max_number_of_stations = 50
empty_weight=83860                  ;inc galley, toilets, catering etc
station_load.0= "2000,0,0,0, 10 Crew & Bags"
station_load.1= "4760,30.0,0,0, 28 Pax (33 max)" ;@ 170 lbs
station_load.2= "4760,-30.0,0,0, 28 Pax (33 max)"  ;@ 170 lbs
station_load.3= "840,15,0,0, Fwd Bags&Cargo" ; @ 30 lbs
station_load.4= "840,-15,0,0, Aft Bags&Cargo" ; @ 30 lbs

//station_load.1=13200,0,0,0            ;66 pax with bags = max payload with full tanks. Applies to B377-10-32 operated by BOAC and all B377s after resale to second hand users so this is the default payload
\\station_load.1=12200,0,0,0            ;61 pax with bags. Applies to B377-10-30 as flown by NWA and most B377-10-26 as flown by PAA, but see separate aircraft.PAA for the B377-10-26 Super Stratocruiser
\\station_load.1=12000,0,0,0            ;60 pax with bags. Applies to B377-10-29 as flown by AOA and PAA
\\station_load.1=11000,0,0,0            ;55 pax with bags. Applies to B377-10-34 as flown by UAL and B377-10-32 as ordered by SAS but delivered to BOAC
\\station_load.1=14400,0,0,0            ;Max payload as flown by RANSA after full cargo conversion
station_load.5 = "0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, FsStation"
station_load.6 = "0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, FsStation"

Max take off weight=147,000            ;later increased to 147,000 after full cargo conversion

147,000 - 46740 fuel = 99060 and 99060 - 83860 = 15200 / 200 = 76 SOB

Default ramp weight is 147,000lbs with max fuel and weight limited payload

Max landing 129,000                  ;later increased to 129,000 after full cargo conversion - some RANSA aircraft only

Moments of Inertia
empty_weight_roll_MOI=625000
empty_weight_pitch_MOI=900000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI=1700000
empty_weight_coupled_MOI=0.0

max_gross_weight=147,000

Thanks for any input on this mater.

I have to look further whhen i get home, but offhand, unless you decrease passenger/cargo weight and/or empty weight, if you just stick another fuel tank in there, your gross weight will just go up- probably over what the airplane can handle. And the Strat will barely climb at normal weights, let alone over gross. I know it was done in RL sometimes, but it didn't work well.
Why are you adding fuel to a 377? Going to the Moon? ;D

In the real world you have max take off weight(MTOW) this can never be exceeded.
So if you add a fuel tank to any aircraft you will naturally add weight to the aircraft. So you need to make sure the extra weight does not exceed the MTOW.
 If you add a tank you might have to give up some weight for cargo/bags in order to keep the weight under MTOW.
If you adjust the cargo weights to offset the fuel weight then you will not have to adjust any thing else as the weights will not change so I would suggest you remove a little weight from each station to off set the weight of the fuel. Rember fuel weighs approx. 6lbs per gallon 8)

Ok thanks for the reply.

I have done some work with this aircraft. One of the things that I did is to add a little more power so the aircraft would be able to handle the exter fuel. I would need figer out how much the exter fuel weights, and add that to the max_gross_weight Right ?
