Windows Game Adviser (Microsoft's New Toy)

Postby FS_Pilot » Thu Feb 02, 2006 12:36 pm

There is a new toy on the Microsoft website called Windows Game Adviser http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/games/gameadvisor/default.mspx It apparently checks your hardware to see what games your system will handle and advise you on the best choice of game for your particular Machine.

P.S You have to use Internet Explorer. (of course)

That advisor has been around for several years... Its not that accurate. It does not load test your system. All it does is record your hardware and compare it to what will run the MS games the best along with compare it to its database of other test runs.

The system I am on right now (I own 5 systems) is what I would call better than average but not the best by any means and this is how the advisor rates it:

Its a marketing ploy

The question it answers is:

Will my PC run the Microsoft game I selected from the list?

The question(s) it does not answer:

Will my PC run the Microsoft game I selected from the list @ at least 24fps and no studders and 100% visual quality with the detail settings on low-med-or high?

It is designed to get you to buy the game you are interested in. It is accurate to the point where it will tell you if you can load and run the game... but that is as far as it goes.

It might load and run the game, but it may run @ 10fps and low visual quality.

I would try it out, but I would be lucky if my system would show on that scale ;D

Steam-powered? I had no idea you were that far advanced! ;D It still beats me though I think my comp is from the stone age. :(

My graphics card is my downfall but it has served me well. I won't upgrade until direct x 10 gcomplient graphics cards hit the market!
