Major Problem

Postby Dr._Who » Sat Jan 28, 2006 10:52 am

This has been going on for a month or two now.
FS loads perfectly. But when I click select aircraft it takes about 3 minuts before the aircraft selecter pups up. Then when I fly, I can only fly for about 20 minutes and then it shuts down and tells me it encountered a problem and had to shut down. Also I can not load nor save a flight. ATC dosnt always work.

I know these problems are related becouse they all stared to show up at the same time.

Please, if anyone can find it in their heart to help me, I will be forever thankful, this is bugging me REALLY much!

I'd reinstall FS9 if that was happening on my computer.

Sounds like an FS that has had trillions of add-ons and is so packed it is bursting at the seams.
How big is your FS9 folder? ;D Probably why the aircraft are taking ages loading. As for it shutting down - I doubt there is likely to be a remedy.
As we all say for everything try deleting the FS9 cfg file. ;) (but it'll revert your settings to defaults). However, I somehow doubt this will help. ::)

:o

Isn't that a bit excessive? I mean, I only have a few dozen aircraft, and I don't fly them all alot.

How could you possible need that many aircraft?

I thought that would be so. It is just too big! ;) With all those addons some are bound to conflict and others just have errors in and by the time you have added that many they cause probs.
Personally I'd opt for a complete install and just keep your favourites. It's hard, but really you are up against an impossible task.

When FS closes down - what cause does it give? If you click one of the links in the closing box, it'll tell you what has caused FS to close - it can be an incompatible gauge, or a DLL file that is having to work too hard. If you can identify that, perhaps we can help.

Yes, it is a BIG installation (mine is 11gB) - but you say that this happened suddenly, and I guess your installation would have grown gradually. What kind of addons have you been putting in over the last few months? It may be that one particular one has sent it 'over the top'.

Mmm, I think it may be worth filtering those you don't use very much into another folder, where you can just pop them back in when and where you need them...

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Insert CD1 and try the uninstall option from there.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
