Ther is a article in January issue of computer pilot that talks about this. You need to down load three programs MyFsGoogleEarth-1-0-1.zip and MyFsTools-1-4.zip two of these programs can be downloaded from

http://earth.google.comIf you do not subcribe to computer pilot I think you can find it at most book stores.
The article is rather lengthy and to much for me to try to type.
But it is a cool program that lets you see your plane over a actual map of the earth. Not sure how old the images are but from what I can see they are not that old.
