This might be very old news but...
Assuming your sound card is designed for 4.1, 5.1 or 7.1 surround, for surround sound (4 speaker support maximum) in Flight Simulator, edit the following into the FS9.cfg file, overwriting the original [SOUND] section entries:
[SOUND]
SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=0.500000
SOUND_FADER2=0.460000
SOUND_FADER3=0.620000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.810000
SOUND_FADER6=1.000000
SOUND_QUALITY=2
Channels=4
SamplesPerSec=44100
BitsPerSample=16
NOTE: There are some gauges in panels (PMDG products included) that cancel out the 4 speaker stereo and revert it back to 2 speaker when the aircraft is booted. If I find out which gauge in the PMDG panels in causing this I will post the panel.cfg file edit in this thread.
A set of these were delivered today:
http://www.medusa-usa.com/medusa-51-sin ... p-782.html
...Very VERY impressive for any multi-channel (more than 2 channels) audio. (4.1 5.1 7.1- Game, DVD, AC3, DivX, etc) They worked fine with 2 channel audio but not as good as my dolby decoder set. The Medusa's have the best bass rumble I have ever hear when using them with a true 5.1 surround source.
Flight Simulator cannot access the 'low-bass' as it has no Lfe channel available to it but with the 4 channel delays laid out in the above code a surround sound FX is 'faked' making flying even more realistic.
There are 4 elements in each ear unit which includes a 'shaker' unit for low rumble.
They were easy to hook up but it took a bit of adjusting of the volume settings so they would not sound distorted. Once I got them set up and learned the different settings for game and movie use, they sound fantastic!
They are not designed to be silent (stealth to the environment)... the mesh design allows everyone in the room to know there is audio playing, just not blasting loud so it is a great way of enjoying (cranking up) 5.1 without blasting the entire house.
