There are downloadble checks and POH's for many different aircraft around the file libraries. Also, check your fuel load as well, that will determine what approach speed you need to look for. For my own experience, I do this. I try to go by the POH if I have one for the aircraft I'm flying. I study them thoroughly for a week or so before I even set up to do a pattern flight let alone a revenue flight. Even going by the numbers though I use a little bit of seat of the pants as much as possible on a motionless sim. Here it is. As long as I can maintain 700 fpm drop down the slope I throttle back as slow as I can. I've come in many times on different planes 10-15 kts. slower than the POH dictated I should for my wieght and flap selection. I think you're coming in too hot. I agree with machine man. Also, use the runway elevation + 3000 formula. Try to be there at least 10 NM out and 200 kts. or slower if possible. If you can find approach plates for the airports you frequent, you will be able to go by the fixes and altitudes on them. Follow those and try to have your speed bled off in advance and you'll be right on the money. If you have your flap setting correct you will have a blance and be able to maintain the 3 degree nose up AND control your descent with your throttles. Follow your vertical pip on your hsi. It goes high, crack the the throttle but gently though until you get centered, it drops, pull em back till you get it centered. A good approach set up should be like that and you should'nt have to use your yoke or stick at all during approach.
