Audio Warning system question

Postby tennm1980 » Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:26 pm

I just downloaded the "Ground Proximity Warning System" sound file, but I have no Idea how to install the files. I thought maybe the "read me" would help, but its extremely confusing. Anyone else have this package and can help me out? Thanks

Not sure which package you have but if there are sound files involved put them in your main FS SOUND folder and the actual gauge if there is one in the gauge folder and that should do it. 8)
You will have to add the gauge to any aircraft you want to use the feature . you can do it manually or download cfgedit and use that to add the gauge to other aircraft.  8)

Are you sure this is for FS9? Isn't it for FS98?

Well the system I downloaded was for fs 98, so maybe its a bit outdated. Does anyone know of any freeware aircraft with Audio systems, i.e climb, descent, approach and landings?

Nah, I really like the videos of the in-cockpit landings where it basically speaks your descent "500, 400, 300" etc. I fly with fs9, and I faintly remember soemone talking about a downloadable plane that actually has this included in the download. Any ideas?

There are loads! BUT the GPWS is in the panel, not the plane. Most modern Airbus or decent Boeing panels have it.

BTW, if you get the free demo of FSPassengers (so long as you don't mind flying from San Francisco all the time) it is built into that as well with copilot callouts for altitude, gear up, faults, etc.

Hmmm.. I have tons of newer Airbus and Boeings....none of them ever "talk" to me. Is there something specific that I need to alter or change with the panel?

No, will be automatic. I'll have a dig through my panels and see which has it.

(Possibly the most AMAZING freeware panel available. Has EVERYTHING, working APU, TCAS, weather radar, in flight crew dialog and of course, GPWS!)

Well Simonmd, Could you be specific which panel has all those features built in

Yes, i'm refering to the panel for the MD11 by Alan Capt. The TCAS and radar do require the full version of FSUIPC to work.

Simonmd are you sure about  that I was under the impression all one had to do was to register the gauge with the free version of FSUIPC and it would work. I did just that with a  AirBus panel and it worked fine.
The only differance between the registered version of fsuipc and the unregisterd version is the registered version allows key assigenments, you can control the weather a little better and some other miner things.  8)

VOHY ---- I believe Im a bit more confused now than I was before. You asked of I had gotten "GPWS", no. I fly with a virtual airline, so I have the free version of FSUIPC installed. So when I get home this evening I'll try and search for some of the panels listed above, and when I find one, what do I do with it to enable to GPWS? Thanks guys.

Although you know GPWS as an addon for FS98, it is not specificaly a term for an addon but a generic aviation term for audible ground warnings on aircraft. It stands for "Ground Proximity Warning System". If it is included in a panel it will work automaticaly, it does not require any other addons to work, in fact, it cannot be turned off!
