Flickering

Postby John_HR » Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:04 pm

>:( I need help, this problem only started recently, whatever Airport I'm at, (and even with no add-on scenery,) the whole scenery, when I look around, flickers, like along runways and taxiways, things flicker, for example when its dark, the lights along runways flicker like crazy, bright, dim, dim bright, very unrealistic, and yet I did not change any settings.

Anyone, any idea what to do to fix it?  All help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.    John

Not everybody here knows everything there is to know about flight sim bugs. Your thread has existed for LESS than a whole day, you need to wait a bit, people don't generally spend their whole day on here, maybe the person who can help you hasn't come on yet. I would reccomend being patient, 23 views isn't alot, and some people, like me, possibly checked out of curiousity since your title is rather cryptic, others might not have the faintest idea about what's wrong, so please, be patient and wait, it doesn't sound like a problem that prevents you from using your simulator.

Do you have AA and AS turned on in the video card and AA set to 4x with AS set to 8x ?

What video card and what type of monitor are you using, is it CRT or LCD?

Also what is the resolution you're running in the flight sim?  This can be found by starting up the flight sim, go to display then click settings.
Try to get the highest resolution your monitor can support, this may solve the problem.

Thank you Midnight,

Your question about the settings in my video card, whether AA and AS are turned on?  sorry, but where do I go to check and change the settings?  (if necessary)
Tells you how much (little) I know about video cards, huh?

I run a "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT.O" video card.

Have a 21" LCD monitor

I run resolution at 1024x768x16

Can you help me some more?  Thanks in advance buddy.

Try setting your monitor resolution to 1024x768x32

Make sure your color is set to its highest (32bit) setting. That might help.

Try borrowing a decent CRT moniter and see if it runs "flicker free".
Unless the your LCD is a top of the line model it could be the main problem, I've yet to come across one under A$5K that performs as well as my CRT. (LG Flatron T910B, 1600x1200@75Hz and a DP of 0.24mm .... under A$300.00 if you haggle!) :o

I'm sorry Midnight, but that little green box is not on my task bar near the clock, or anywhere else.
Been looking for that icon all over, everywhere to no avail. I'm very frustrated.

Wonder where I would find it?   I'll keep looking, but........I already looked everywhere  :-[

Hi wombat, I did try a brand new CRT 21" DELL Monitor today, makes no difference, flickering still there.

I really think my video card needs to be adjusted, but as you can see, I don't find where to access it.

I'll keep looking, its got to be somewhere in my PC, because I know its there.   :'(

Go to 'Control Panel > Display > click Settings Tab > Click 'Advanced' in bottom right corner > if you see a tab w/ your video card name on it, click it and you'll be able to find those options if available.  --------- If this doesn't work, just go to the 'Settings' menu within FS9 and select the AA feature there. I'm not exactly sure this is the problem, but this will help you find what Midnight is talking about. Another note, when I first installed my NVidia card, my screen flickered too, but a little worse than what you're describing. I called NVidia and they said many people had called w/ this complaint and they made new drivers to accomodate the game. Make sure you've got the latest version available. Hope this helps.

Hum....... no "green box" on the bar....... sounds like maybe the normal full video drivers were not installed correctly?  John_HR... did you recently upgrade or switch your video cards?

best,
