Water effects slider won't stay on high!

Postby mojavepilot » Sun Jan 08, 2006 7:54 pm

I recently downloaded Lynn and Bill Lyons Silver Wings Edition ( I think thats the name) scenery package.  For some reason when I slide the water effects slider to High it stays there, but when I go back to main settings menu then reopen display its right back on low where it started.  I can't make it stay on high!!!  I did a search, but I'm not the best searcher, and therefore found no help in searching.  Can anyone help me??  Thanks in advance.

This is a common problem among those who have low-end video cards. If your video card doesn't support DirectX 9, then the sim will not render the water reflections.

I had an older computer that had a GeForce 4 MX440 with 128MB. Even with that card, the sim could render the reflections because that card didn't support DX9 [even if DX9 was installed].

Try http://www.newegg.com

They usually have good prices. I'm not really a hardware expert, so I can't make any recommendations other than the fact that my GeForce 6600GT is wonderful and displays the water effects as they should be.

You'll need a directx9 compliant card.

Cheapest you can go is the Geforce FX5200, for which you'll pay about $80 or less.

My card is a Geforce 7800 and in dollars was around $600, but you really get god good graphics and performance for that money.

There is a range of cards with various prices in between.
Have a look on www.nvidia.com and www.ati.com...
