Glitchy rudder problems...

Postby Soulmoon » Sat Dec 31, 2005 1:37 pm

Ok, I'm not posting this in hardware, because I don't *think* it's a hardware issue, I could be wrong though...

For the last few days, I've been having problems with the rudder control in aircraft. It's like FS 'forgets' the rudder is being activated if it's not being fiddled with... If I apply a certain amount of right rudder for a turn, it works ok for a couple of seconds, then resets to 0 rudder... A tiny little wiggle of the twist-stick pops it back to where it should be, for another couple seconds, then it 'forgets' again.

I've looked at what the computer sees from my joystick (Saitek X-52, for the record), and the rudder axis appears constant in control pannel... It doesn't 'forget', the red line stays exactly where I hold it indefinetly. This leads me to believe it's probably a FS issue, or maybe a hardware configuration issue, but I don't know for sure.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Is Autopilot on? I had a similar problem in my last leg of my RTW flight. I turned the autopilot on by accident, which is kind of strange since the Maule M7 doesn't have an autopilot. Even so, FS refused to let me have constant rudder or elevator contol. I would fully deflect the control and it would stay there for a few seconds, then it would center itself and continue flying.

Nay, 'tis not the autopilot... This is happening in a number (all?) of the planes I use, it's just most noticeable in some of the high performance ones like the RAS Spitfire (Which also doesn't have an autopilot ;) ), but I've noticed it flying even some default microsoft planes.

Speaking of rudder squawks.... (mine may be of no help in sorting out the aforementioned problems), but has anyone else had troubles with the B-17 Ack-Ack Annie (no rudder response/movement at all) and the Privateer PB4Y-2 from recent pages in the Vintage 2004 downloads?

The PB will start out OK with good response on takeoff then deteriorate to where full rudder input (CH pedals) will not "center the ball" in a 10-15 degree bank.  Visuals from spot view confirm limited movement also.

Recent download of tif1BT.zip (Typhoon) produced so much rudder that a kick of my pedals would almost throw the aircraft into a flat spin.  TyphoonUpdate.zip seems to have corrected that and now if flies well.

Just thought I'd throw these out there to provide something to ponder.

I never use auto-pilot and have always assumed it is always off in default mode.  That a correct assumption?

Cheers,

In the FS settings, do you have the sticks twist axis set as the rudder? Because if you have that AND your pedals set as the rudder control, then FS will take commands from both of them. Basically, it doesn't know which one to respond to.

Edit: nevermind, I see now that you only have the twist stick and no pedals. I'm leaving that reply up though, others might find it useful.

This happens quite a bit to me while using a Saitek X45.

What I do is just go into the sim and recalibrate the X-45 and it works again
