Locking your frame rate at 20 won't make the FPS stay at 20 all the time - all 'locking' will do is make sure that your frames NEVER go above 20.

You will still get lag when flying around built up areas or using 'heavy' weather.

The only reason to lock frames is to help stop your PC from working harder than it needs to.

Apparently the human eye can't distinguish any higher than about 25 fps anyway, so you might aswell lock your frames at that. Any higher & you would never be able to tell the difference.

Cheers,

TSC.

I lock at 35.  I aim to get at least 30, but locking at 35 leaves more room.  It depends on your computer

Hi Demo

I agree, with you one the eye seeing more than 25 FPS. I can tell when my monitor is at 60Hz (60 fps) I can see the slightest flicker. I can tell in F1C when my frame rates drop into the 50's. Also, I can tell it in the 'feel' of any game.

If you are capable of exceeding your montor's refresh rate, lock fps at the refresh rate. For example, if I was able to get 80fps (I wish) and my monitor is set to 60Hz, I would lock it at 60fps. Why have my computer try to display a new frame every 1/80th of a second when my monitor only refreshes every 1/60th of a second.
