New hard drive

Hi guys Im re-installing all of my fs9 to a new hard drive but im not sure what drive to go for because its for my flight sim only do i get a 200gb 7200rpm or a 80gb 7200rpm .Can anyone give advise please

Unless you plan on downloading every single addon ever created for FS9 the 80GB should be fine. My FS8 and FS9 folders combined arent even 15GB

Use the 80GB HD. Most of our gung-ho simmers only managed to have a 30GB installation of addons alone at best.

However, if you use X-Plane v8.XX, use the 200GB HD.

This is how I have my computer set up:

250GB External HD - Used strictly for X-Plane v8.21
80GB External HD - Used strictly for FS9
40GB Main Internal HD - Other stuff

I also save my downloaded addons on separate folders that are located according to where the related sims are installed. [ex: FS Addons are on the same HD as the sim]. That way, if I ever have to reinstall my computer again [which is next year], then I can just simply disconnect the HDs and just simply clean out the main HD without affecting the saved addons.

However, you should only do this if you money. These HDs aren't cheap, you know.

80GB HD - $100
250GB HD - $150

I'm using the Lacie HDs manufactured by F-A-Porsche. They're powered by AC adapters and connect via USB.

If you can afford it, get a 200gb hard drive. When I first built my computer, I thought a 15gb hard drive would be plenty of room. Of course, this was back in 1999.

An additional 4gb hard drive was sufficient for a while, but then a few years ago, I bought a 60 gb hard drive. I thought, "Tthat's big enough. What could I possibly fill that much space up?". Wrong again, I've got about 8 gigs free, and I struggle between large games, programs, and audio and video editing.

So, next time I rebuild my computer, instead of buying a hard drive that's only slightly larger, i'm probably going to buy a 200 gb hard drive. Now it may seem ridiculous now, but in a few years, I bet it won't

Esselbach has nailed it.

Get the biggest you can afford, not what you think you will need. I would take the 200GB drive as the minimum size I would put in. It's a lot easier putting in a large drive now than trying to put in several smaller ones later and risk crashing your system.

Thanks guys so if i get the seagate serial ata 200gb what about hard drive speed is it worth keeping 7200rpm or pay the extra and go for a 10000rpm  ???

Depends on your bus speed.

Unless you have a really super quick system 7200 will be just fine
