FS2004 will not connect online

Postby rhole » Wed Dec 14, 2005 9:56 pm

I would like to enable on-line weather.  FS reports that I am not online, though I have an active cable modem with or without Internet Explorer running at the time.  The cable modem is new- I used to have a dial-up conection but never tried FS connect with that.

Has it worked in the past?

Just check to see if your cable server has a built in Firewall. Or if you are connected through a router with a built in firewall, that'll do it. In any case you should call cable service, so they can walk you through the set up again. Explain to them in plain language what you are experiencing. If you don't go to sleep waiting on hold, you'd be surprised what they know in India.

I never tried connecting with the dialup line.  Cable works well for other applications.  I have Zone Alarm firewall active--is there a setting there to check?

I use a router to connect to broadband with and it has a built in firewall I do not need any special setting to use real world weather but depending on how or what service you use to connect with multiplayer you will have to open ports in your fire wall in order to use that service VATSIM and the others have a readme file that tells you which ports you need to set. Just check your manual that came whit zone alarm if it will not allow this then you will have to deactivevate it while flying.
If you fly for a virtual airline check with the site they should have a section for how to connect with there multiplayer

Thanks for the help.  I am part-way successful.  Zone Alarm firewall was blocking internet access.  Changing the settings allows partial access: I can now load the "News", but when it accesses on-line weather FS hangs up and must be cancelled with Task Manager.  Must be more settings to change.  I do not have Zone Alarm docs.

If you look at my other thread, "No Real World Weather?", you will see that since yesterday, nobody is able to download real world weather. A server somewhere must be down.

We'll just have to wait untill it's up and running before we see if there are any more problems with your end ;)
