Hi Will.

It's a snapshot of real-world real-time weather downloaded by your PC from the Jeppesen website while you are flying FS. It only works if you are connected to the web at the time.

...it's the surprise that I always get when I experience the difference between sitting in my comfy chair, looking at the angry clouds on my monitor....

...and venturing outside into the garden and getting soaked to the bleedin' skin in the rain....
