I can't comment on the Maule as if I recall it's a big file & I'm unfortunately still on dial-up. If you did as you said here
The problem could well rest with my technique for downloading.
Here is what I do: "copy" folder to aircraft directory which is :
My computer
C drive
Program Files
Microsoft games...FS9
Aircraft
"Paste"
open the Maule folder you pasted into FS9\Aircraft & make sure it looks like one of the default aircraft. I wouldn't mind betting there's another folder inside it instead of the usual Model, Panel, Sound & Texture subfolders. This will hide it so FS can't find it. Check out the installation tute from the SimV Help section or my Lair from my sig & read it carefully until you understand the principle. This is explained much better the tute than I can on the forum.

Please tell me if you fix it. If you still have problems installing aircraft give me an example of a smaller download so I can walk you through it. Now I have WinXP I can do this right from extracting the zipfile using the onboard Compressed Folders extraction utility. This is basically no different from using WinZip that I'm used to but might extract folders in a slightly different way. The methods & utilities used for extracting zipfiles can make all the difference.

I intend posting a tute on this at Grumpy's Lair as soon as I get my continuing computer problems sorted out & somewhere near back to normal.

Did you download and install the original maule package, or the upgrade package? The upgrade package may look complete but not all of the aircraft files are present in the files.

I almost mistakenly thought the upgrade package was complete

As far as not doing what you want, I dont get it.  Forget FS procedures.  IF you want to do a circuit, do it!

Hi Andrew :)

I tried the download from the newest page in props from our download section here.
I thought it was a complete package.
Maybe you are right, although it is a very large download file.

Why not try a few smaller ones first until you get the hang of it? That's what I would do even if you don't intend keeping them.

Ok Doug had no problem downloading two (2) aircraft from the FS 2004 download section.

I picked them at random and they seemed small downloads.

I followed the procedure I posted and they worked fine.

I had no problem removing them as well.

I do not know why the Maule won't take unless like they say I may have to download the original.  The download says it is a complete package though.

The reason I chose the Maule and I have never flown one is because it was the only download I could see that had an amphibian model and a wheel/ski model.

Hi trucker, You might enjoy this Piper Tri-Pacer. It comes with wheels, skis, and floats. It also has a self installer if I remember correctly, and all you have to do is unzip the downloaded file and double click the installer and it takes care of the rest.

It's toward the bottom of the page. Enjoy. ;)

Please don't give them ideas Doug. We've been down that road before & it could have killed our hobby stone dead. I've actually seen a website of a small aircraft manufacturer that featured FS models of their aircraft. I forget which one now but these were freeware & created by a well-known FS modeller. This was some time ago so they might not be much use now even if I could find it.

That was Zodiac. They aren't compatable with FS 2004 however. I had them in 2002 and loved them. Fantastic flyiers. I emailed the company website and asked if they intended to have them updated but the answer was "no". I have them installed anyway. Just have to imagine you see a prop when the motor isn't running.

A yes. The Zenith Zodiac. Thanks for reminding me. I can't find the FS models so they might have removed them. http://www.zenithair.com/
I forget the name of the chap that created them but they're probably still around somewhere. Shame they're not fully FS9 compatible as I loved those little planes & it's a pity some other aircraft manufacturers don't follow suit. Zenith seems a very go-ahead company & the boss obviously appreciates that

Yo Trucker: I didn't have any trouble that I can recall with the Maule (doesn't that package self-install?), but I think maybe your trouble is that what you thought was the folder that FS9 looks for to set up the roster of available planes is really the folder containing the folder you want in your "Aircraft" folder. FS9 searches by folder name, so if it sees the wrong one there, it will delve no further, and simply not show it.
Been a while since I installed my Maule, but looking at my "Aircraft" folder, I see that the title of the folder is: wait, there are a bunch of folders! Bet you didn't separate them:
If you open FS9 as a program folder (Programs>Microsoft Games> Flight Simulator 9), in the "Aircraft" subfolder you should see:
Maule M7-260 Amphibian
Maule M7-260 Documents
Maule M7-260 Panels
Maule M7-260 Sounds
Maule M7-260 Spring Gear
Maule M7-260 Taildragger
Maule M7-260 Tri-cycle
Maule M7-260 Tundra Wheel
Maule M7-260 Wheel-ski

Not sure if I installed it "right"myself, but mine works. and she's a real nice one...enjoy!!
The Lyons' Tri-Pacer was mentioned too: if you liked their Aztec, you're gonna love the Tri-Pacer.
As for the round-trip flight plan (annoying, isn't it?), Gary's suggestion is your best bet. It will also come in handy when ATC just cancels your plan out of the bue (WTF?!),  or if you need to divert. Selecting "CReate or file IFR plan" in the ATC window, the sim stops and takes you to the flight planning page. You can also create any plans you might need beforehand, save them, then load them from the Flight Plan page when the time comes, instead of taking the time then (mid-flight)to do all that clicking and dragging, etc.
This is one of the reasons sim flying is harder than the real thing... ::)
Good luck!
