If FS10 is going to be a sucess they need to get designers on board like Bill Lyons Kirk Olssen and others. These are the producers of really high end add ons, and the things which make FS great.
Better ATC, More AI in the sky, harsher weather..All these things. Having the tail boom metal on a Huey ripple as you "pull G"...MS used to provide the basic platform for the designers, now its time to make that platform as good as it can be.

Why get them onboard when they do a perfectly good job enhancing the product whilst not on the payroll?

I agree with you there, out of the box FS is basic at best, but isn't that part of the fun? I've spent more hours downloading, tweaking, SimVing, than flying, that's for sure. That's why i like FS... and this place... and you lot!  ;D

Very good point. AS I said before, I think that the only thing M$ should focus on is enhancing the flexibility of the AI and functionality of the ATC. Beyond that, it's up to the community to enhance the rest.

I'll second that, if it came with everything 'out of the box' it would take alot of the fun out of it. Personaly, half the fun is 'discovering' a new AC or sound package. Due to the limitless combination of AC/Panels/Sounds/Textures/Scenery, etc, etc. there probably is not one person on here that has the same setup as anyone else.

hey cool video.

Its been 2 years since FS9, and with another year planned to finish fs10, I expect good things from it.

I think that Microsoft is consulting with major content providers (my general way of saying that they don't talk to me, but they probably talk to more knowledgable people).  After all, what are beta  testers if not consultants?  They don't have to be on Microsoft's payroll - just willing to sign, and adhere to, a binding NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

With what Microsoft has already indicated about the direction they're looking at for Flight Simulator, it is apparent that their own research indicates that practically ALL flightsimeers use 3rd party content rather than the default aircraft, etc.  *I think* that it is to their commercial benefit to concentrate on improving the base flightsim environment - flight dynamics, AI, weather, etc; and provide support to the community in the form of the SDKs to actually create and provide the much more detailed content - aircraft, scenery, etc..

Of course, that's my personal opinion, and (harumph) Microsoft has not deemed it appropriate to receive the benefit of my incredible prescience on the matter.  :)

When is the next version of Flight Simulator going to be released? What are the new features?

If you've read the article Making Flight Simulator, you know that the Flight Simulator team is always working on a new version. We've published Flight Simulator for some 20 years, and we plan to keep building new releases far into the future.

Flight Simulator has become a very complex product, and it takes a long time to create a new version. During the development phase, we don't talk about our plans, because plans change. Although we work from detailed specifications and schedules, as we create the product we often add, modify, or remove features. To avoid confusion, we keep quiet about the details of new features and release dates until the product stabilizes late in the development process. We don't want to promise what we won't eventually deliver.

When we do have news about new versions, you'll find it first on the Flight Simulator Web site, where it is posted for the entire community to read.

yah thats my thought and on that same note i think adding a combat system would be a bad i deah for thi series

i play another game calld trainz and for along time the game was just where you drove around trains with out goals untill the most recent vershion they added interactive industrys maby like that game fs10 could have an interactive indistry as to say where you could take pasingers from one airport to another or edleast when you configre like a cesna with 4 people in it i has 4 people in it unlike fs9 where there are just 1 or 2 pilets
