A/C texture question.

Postby alb469 » Fri Dec 02, 2005 3:18 pm

Will a texture for fs2002 work in fs9? Tried to install the RCAF texture from Mike Stones 2002 CL44 on the CL-44 in fs9.It comes up in the variation list as 437 sqd CC106 which is correct but what appears is the default tradewinds texture. Double checked my install and it all seems correct. Any help would be appreciated. ???

Textures on FS2002 aircraft should display in FS9. I suspect you didn't install the repaint correctly. Check that the new Texture folder is correctly named & that you pointed the texture= line in the new Aircraft.cfg entry to it. I suspect the latter. It's very easy to make this sort of mistake.

Thanks Hagar. I thought it should work. Will recheck the entry again. The install was a cut and paste so it was the same as the designer put in. perhaps something got lost in the shuffle.

If the new RCAF variation displays with the original textures I suspect that Aircraft.cfg texure= entry. Otherwise it would display with no textures at all. Tell me exactly where you downloaded this repaint & I can check it out for you.

Hagar. It was d/l from flight sim, 2002 a/c under cl-44. I checked myself and the textures are not in a folder. think that is were my trouble stems from. I served with 437 during the Yukon years and it would be nice to have that A/C in my sim.

OK. If I can find it I'll check it out. I already have the Mike Stone original. I don't know how experienced you are with installing textures but here's the basic principle. The new textures must be in a separate folder alongside the original Texture folder. This new folder can have any name you wish providing it follows the FS folder-naming conventions. This one could be Texture.rcaf

The texture= line in the new [fltsim.x] entry must be pointed at this folder for it to work. Usually if there's no name or number following the texture= it will use the original Texture folder. For it to use the new one, add the part of the folder name following the period - whatever that might be. In this example it would be texture=rcaf

PS. You must have the correct version of the original aircraft these repainted textures were intended for. If they're for a different one it's quite likely they won't display.

PPS. I've searched both Flightsim.com & Simviation & can't find any RCAF CL-44. A link to the page it's posted on would help.

Hagar. the file is in flightsim in 2002 a/c. the file is yukontex.zip. Just go into flightsim, 2002 a/c.and cl-44 or zip file. It is there.

Right. I now have the files. There are several different methods for installing repainted textures depending on whether you wish to keep the existiing version of the aircraft. Note that you must have the original Tradewind CL-44 installed & running in FS9.

Thanks Hagar. Will follow your instuctions. What confused me also was the 412 sqn designation until I remembered A/C 929 started out in 412 and then was sent to 437 sqn sometime in the 60s. Eventually 437 operated all the Yukons built. The paint scheme shown is the original but was changed to another final one. It would be nice if someone could do its last colours. Thanks again for your help. :)
