HELP!  Not your typical frame rate problem

Postby stevem » Wed Nov 23, 2005 10:44 am

My frame rates CONSISTENTLY do this:
- 35fps for 45 seconds, then 5fps for 35 seconds...
- 35fps for 45 seconds, then 5fps for 35 seconds...
- and so on.

I've got a high-powered machine (2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 5700LE with 256MB).  Super-clean machine, with no known spyware/viruses.  No other performance problems.

The problem occurs ALL THE TIME:
- Regardless of scenery
- Regardless of aircraft in use
- Regardless of weather

... AND, it even occurs when FS is PAUSED!!! (Meaning when I pause FS, the displayed frame rate changes every 35 to 45 seconds in the same manner).

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?  Thank you very much.

Do you have anything running in the background such as antivirus software?

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete...once!....
Have a peek at what programs are running, and using processor time in the background, apart from FS9... ;)...!

Also disable any power saving function in your operating system.
Example: AMD Cool'n'Quiet and the like (CnQ actually is unlikely to give problems in FS9, or at least it doesn't to me, but it sure gives similar problems in other games I own).

Is the flight simulator the only program where this occurs?

Esselbach, yes, FS2004 is the only program where this occurs.  Other software I usually run includes MS Office, Corel PhotoPaint/Draw, FrontPage, and Flash (I never run these simultaneously with FS2004), and there are no performance issues with any other software.

What about trying an un-install and re-install of FS9?
(Your add-ons will remain intact).

Cheers...!

Paul...Uncle Bill does this every now and again, just to infuriate us... ;)... ;D...!

Bit of a long shot but when was the last time you defragmented your hard drive?

Super long shot, but see what happens if you set the fps to a limit of 25 in the FS9 display setting section. I assume you have it on unlimited now.  :)

Good tip, Clip...(That rhymes!)... ;)...!

Also....set your visibility from infinite, to 10, or 20, or 30 miles max...more realistic...and saves having to load scenery in the far distance... 8)...!

Before a complete re-install why not try deleteing the FS9.cfg file. I have never done this myself, but from what I understand, FS9 will build a new file and this sometimes sorts out all sorts of problems.

Good luck.

I just uninstalled/reinstalled FS2004, and that did not solve the problem.  ???
