hmm strange things happening on my fs9

Postby CenturyHangar » Mon Oct 31, 2005 11:16 am

well I tweaked many things and I was sure that was the reason why I am getting this problem, but then I noticed other people are having it too...

after a few hours into flying the top menu bar dissapears on the fs window, the bottom part gits filled with waky colors, my right click on my mouse doesn't work, I cannot click on other icons on my desktop to start applications and if I change views or goto/come back from full screen mode, my fs9 freezes with the mouse pointer flickering like nuts and I am left with the only option to forcefully shut down the machine and reboot....

ideas?

My instincts tell me you may have a heat problem. That's usually what it is when something occurs after a period of time.

I had one but it manifested itself in a different way. What I did was remove the side cover that gives access to the top of the motherboard. I left it open and directed the air from a desktop fan into the case. Then I ran FS to see if the problem went away. It did.  I simply added an internal exhaust fan and all was well.

The problem was was actually the video card. The heatsink on the MPU wasn't big enough for the amount of air circulation without the additional exhaust fan.

There is one other, more insidious possibility. You might have something loaded that has a "memory leak". I seem to recall seeing postings on other forums where a certain scenery addon had this problem. Something to think about.

Hope this helps.

I will have to agree with the heat problem as the issue. When flying for extended periods does your machine slow down? does your windows OS drop some of it's drivers? That was the problem I was having. I bought a bigger case for my components to allow for more air flow I increased the number of fans to 12 and changed all my IDE cables from flat ribbon to round IDE's. The best ten dollars I ever spent however was on a fan that fits into one of the empty expansion slots on my computer, it moves 35 CFM of air out of my box and it is in the expansion slot right below my vid card.  A cool system is a happy system and a happy system flys like no bodies business.

Has any one had the first cockpit panel expand itsself into a useless image on their screen? I'm having such a problem, and I could sure accept someones' input on this.
